Android users can now update their Chrome browsers without worrying about how it will affect other apps. Google resumed the deployment of Chrome 79 on the platform after a loophole forced the team to shelve it. Users reported that the update "erased" data from third-party applications using the WebView framework, although the tech giant explained that it didn't actually erase anything-- it just made their information invisible.

A Google spokesman said that fixed updates will enter people's devices within this week, and affected user data will be displayed again in WebView-based applications. In this particular case, being the first person to get an update is not a good thing: Google says it can suspend the deployment of updates until it reaches the expected 15% of users. The spokesman said in a statement:

"M79 updates for Chrome and WebView on Android devices are suspended after detecting that some users of some apps in WebView are not visible. These app data will not be lost. When we provide updates, the data will be displayed in the app to avoid the inconvenience caused this week. We apologize."
