The Winamp 5.8beta, which was suddenly leaked online not long ago, evokes the memories of many old PC users. The classic media player software, which was born 21 years ago, has not been updated for five years.

­Winamp is currently run by Radionomy, a Belgian online video service, which took over from AOL in 2014. According to foreign media reports, Radionomy CEO Alexandre Saboundjian made it clear that a completely new version will be released in 2019 and retain the classic flavor.

­according to Saboundjian, Winamp 6 will release updates for both desktop and mobile (iOS+Android), supporting local MP3 as well as cloud music, podcasts, radio, etc.

­in addition, the official version of Winamp 5.8 is also scheduled to be launched this week, fixing BUG and compatibility issues.

­Winamp launched the Android version in 2010 and the Mac version in 2011, according to the data. "if it hadn't been for the poor management of AOL, Winamp could have achieved what iTunes does today," one former employee said.

­Winamp still has as many as 100m monthly active users.
