Quotas and users

Disk quotas monitor individual user usage, so each user's disk space utilization does not affect the disk quotas of other users on the same volume. For example, if the quota limit is 500 MB and the user has saved 500MB of files on disk, the user must first delete or move some existing files from before writing additional data to the volume. However, as long as there is enough space, each other user can save up to 500MB of files in it.

Disk quotas are based on file ownership and are not limited by the folder location of user files in the volume. For example, if a user moves files from one folder to another folder on the same volume, volume space usage is unchanged. However, if users copy files to different folders on the same volume, volume space usage doubles.

Quotas are divided into two modes. One is hard quota, which does not allow users to exceed the quota. Soft quotas allow users to exceed quota limits. Hard quotas are mostly selected when used, and soft quotas are used for monitoring more.

First, install the corresponding service first. Below, use Windows Server 2016 to experiment.

Click Install and wait a moment

Because this experiment uses two accounts to reflect the effect, first create users and disk files

Next up is the point, creating quotas.

Quotas can be created using your own template, or you can use server-recommended templates.

After quota creation, log in with FileZilla Client and experiment

Since the previous quota is not more than 100M files can be uploaded successfully, the following directly with more than 100M files to see what happens

You can see that we cannot upload directly. We are trying to upload files smaller than 100M. What is the effect?

There are two types of quotas: hard quotas and soft quotas.
