Last year, Redis Labs became the focus of public debate over whether to adhere to the open source route, and recently, the $60 million E-round financing of Redis LBs has once again seen the company's influence in the database sector.

On January 19, 2019, Redis Labs announced that it had received a new round of financing of US $60 million, which was also the fifth round of financing after US $44 million raised by D-round in August 2017. The financing was led by Francisco Partners Private Equity, followed by Goldman Sachs Private Capital, Bain Capital Venture Capital, Viola Ventures and Dell Technology Capital.

"the money will be used to accelerate the listing of Redis and to continue to invest in the open source community Redis," said Ofer Bengal, chief executive of Redis. He also said that the financing will accelerate the original strategy of Redis Labs, provide faster and more efficient NoSQL database services to global users, and provide real-time experience for any modern application.

Redis Labs was founded eight years ago by CEO Ofer Bengal and CTO Yiftach Schoolman, who built the NoSQL database platform using native data structures that allow users to process application requests directly from memory. Their early work focused on building Redis (Remote Dictionary Server remote data Service) storage systems. Redis is an open source project written in ANSI C language, complies with BSD protocol, supports network, memory-based and persistent log, Key-Value database, and provides API in multiple languages. It is often called a data structure server because the value can be of types such as String, Map, list, sets, and sorted sets.

Taking advantage of modern memory technologies such as NVMe (non-volatile memory) and persistent memory, Redis is known as one of the fastest databases in the world and can be deployed on multiple public clouds and local data centers. In addition, Redis Enterprise also provides a variety of data modeling technologies, including Streams,Graph,Document and Machine Learning, as well as real-time search engines.

According to Bengal, Redis's database platform runs 1000 times faster than disk databases, can reach the corresponding speed of milliseconds, and can process 10 million transactions per second, faster than competitors such as MongoDB, Apache's Cassandra and Couchbase. Redis's revenue has reached "tens of millions of dollars" and is growing at a rate of 60 per cent a year. More than 8300 customers-including American Express, Atlassian, Microsoft, Vodafone, Wal-Mart, DreamWorks and six Fortune 10 companies and 40 per cent of Fortune 100 companies-subscribe to Redis cloud services, and more than 250people use Redis Labs enterprise solutions.
