Backup software eBackUp: originally called HyperDP

The difference between backup and archiving: the purpose of backup is to restore, and the purpose of archiving is to keep a copy of data.

EBackUp backup scope: backup in a virtualized environment, especially virtual machine disks, that is, files or volumes; can be backed up for FC or vSphere

EBackUp backup architecture: production storage, backup server, backup agent, backup storage, etc.

Backup mode: full backup (each backup of all data, the advantage is that the recovery is simple, the disadvantage is that it takes up more storage space), differential backup (one full backup + several differential backups, the advantage takes up less space, the disadvantage is that the recovery time is longer), incremental backup (one full backup + several incremental backups, the advantage takes up the least space, the disadvantage is the longest data recovery time) However, eBackUp chooses full backup and incremental backup.

Snapshot: it is divided into full-copy snapshot (generally not used), COW (IE), ROW (redirect on write), WA (random write), etc. EBackUp is to back up the virtual machine disk and requires its data storage to support backup. At present, there are mainly two kinds of storage resources, one is disk array, the other is the technology applied by FS; to the former is called CBT, and the technology applied to the latter is called snapshot comparison.

CBT:changing block trace, the mainstream technology in the industry, is not unique to Huawei. There are several important concepts, such as memory bitmap (a two-dimensional drawing in memory, which is the same as the number of blocks cut by the disk file, all 0 at the beginning), CBT file (which is also divided into several boxes, each box is 4 bytes, recording the change of the CBT version number of this block).

Memory bitmap: record the change from the last backup to this backup, as long as there is any change, record as 1

Use eBackUp for backup: first log in to eBackUp management portal to complete docking (that is, add protected environment, cannot backup and manage VM), set backup storage, backup strategy, etc. It is important to note that backup storage must be a file system.

EBackUp installation: when you install eBackUp for the first time, you will be prompted to install it as a server or an agent. You can choose to install an agent on this node automatically, and then you can choose to be an agent when you continue to install the software. All agents must be connected to the same shared storage.

Backup for FS: keep a snapshot on the production side; each backup produces a snapshot, backing up the differences between snapshots to the backup side

Network plane: management plane (backup management (through which the management terminal can log in to the backup management system to complete backup tasks), production management (communication plane between backup server, agent and management plane of production side), internal communication plane (communication plane between backup server and backup agent), storage plane (plane between backup agent and storage)

Restore: the recovery process business will be interrupted

Backup networking: LAN-Base (all types are supported, but the disadvantage is that backup streams occupy production bandwidth, and production hosts consume computing resources), LAN-Free (does not occupy management or business bandwidth, but business hosts are still busy in price comparison), Server-Free (install client agents on backup servers, backup streams from production storage to backup servers, and then to backup storage, without going through production hosts), etc. EBackUp only supports LAN-Base and LAN-Free.

Limitation: when the production storage is FS, you can only use LAN-Free to build the network.

Third-party backup solution: simpana, which implements integrated backup on the physical host, can only back up data and applications, not the operating system; the back-end backup media has a wide range; compared with eBackup, agent software needs to be installed on the backup host to facilitate identification of applications for backup
