Microsoft has deployed a fix to fix a nasty Windows 10 bug that caused a computer with a Thunderbolt port to crash. This patch is part of the optional update KB4586853 for the Windows 10 2020 update on May 10, 2020 and October 10, 2020, and since it is an optional patch, it must be self-checked for installation through Windows Update (in other words, it does not occur automatically).

KB4586853 resolved an error where plugging an external NVMe solid state drive into the Thunderbolt port would cause a blue screen death (BSoD) crash. Oddly enough, at least some users seem to see the crash outside of this situation.

In any case, this particular Greenlin has now been exiled, or at least it is time for KB4586853 to make good on its promises.

These commitments also include resolving the freeze of the narrator and the insensitivity of touching the keyboard when using the email app. Windows Mixed Reality headphone users will also be pleased to hear that KB4586853 improves the visual quality of users running in lower resolution mode.

Finally, some minor problems affecting gamers were fixed, including the fact that Xbox Game Bar application controls could not be displayed on some monitors when playing DX9 games, and "preventing you from finding some Microsoft Xbox game consoles on Windows devices".

Then, there are some useful fixes, but as always, if all of these issues are available to you, there is no reason to install optional updates (especially if you see that Microsoft updates sometimes cause new problems and resolve existing ones in Windows 10).
