1. Application window

There may be some undiscovered features, but they haven't been explored in depth. Here's how to compile Gnome 3.1.5:

Gnome has an automatic script-assisted compilation, basically no coding knowledge is needed, the only thing you need is your time and patience, and the compiled Gnome runs in sand table mode, so you don't have to worry about it damaging or affecting the existing system.

1. First download a script: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/plain/tools/build/gnome-shell-build-setup.sh

Save it in any directory (where you have permission to read and write), add executable attributes, and run it (in any directory location, the same below), and then it will prompt you to install a bunch of dependencies needed for compilation. After installing the dependencies, the script will generate a "jhbuild" program.

2. Delete the * .la file under / usr/lib or / usr/lib64, and use the following command:

Sudo find / usr/lib {, 32 delete 64}-name "* .la"-delete

This is the only operation that requires root permission, and it is important to note that the combination of sudo and rm (delete) usually creates human cutlery, and you must ensure that every character and space is entered correctly before execution.

3, execute jhbuild build to start compilation, the whole compilation process will take about 40 minutes, wait slowly. If you crash or lose power in the middle of compilation, you can use the jhbuild build-afc command to start over. If you keep crashing, consider buying a chassis fan to cool down the CPU.

4. Execute jhbuild shell and gnome-shell-- replace after compilation to see the new version of gnome. Run system Settings Click system Information to see the currently running gnome version, as shown in figure 9:

5. As long as you log out and log in again, the desktop will return to its original state.
