2. Download initrd.gz and vmlinuz Education Network http://ftp.sjtu.edu.cn/Ubuntu/dists/...ages/hd-media/ official http://archive.Ubuntu.com/Ubuntu/dis...ages/hd-media/ to save the above three files in the root directory of the fat32 partition (of course * * is the root directory of the same partition as Ubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.iso) or the root directory of the ext3 or reiserfs partition * do not save it in the ntfs partition.

I saved it in the D root directory of windows, where linux is represented as / dev/hda5 and in grub as (hd0,4).

To be clear, partitioning is a critical step. I don't have a graphical interface like Parition Magic; it's a text interface that allows me to configure and choose. Ubuntu requires us to assign three linxu partitions (which should be divided in advance): two ext3 partitions and one swap partition (one more zone is required than the Fedora installation, although the use is essentially the same). When configuring, * there are at least 2G ext3 partitions, where the mount mount point should be selected as "/" (root root directory). In the second section, I choose "/ home" (where the personal data is placed) according to the 6G root mount point. The third partition is, of course, swap partition, which is generally twice the memory size, such as 512m. At the same time, each partition * * selects formatting. Anyway, it is formatted quickly and does not take much time.

seven. Choose whether or not to install boot Manager (this step I think should be optional) installation. After the installation, you will be asked if you have detected windows xp on your machine. In order to better manage the startup options, please ask whether to install boot Manager. I chose yes, the result boot choice is of course no problem, but there have been two restart menus: * the menu of GRUB asks you to enter WINDOWS or Ubuntu; if you choose to enter windows, then the multiple options of boot.ini are still there, so you have to choose again to enter windows. Of course, after entering windows, you can edit boot.ini and remove the grub option, because it is no longer needed.

I encountered the classic PAE (Physical Address Extension) problem when I installed OS X.
