Analysis:

Just because Dell computers use SATA hard drives, we know that currently SATA hard drives work in two modes, one is "ATA mode" ("compatible" mode, "standard" mode, which maps SATA hard drives to the system's IDE channel; the second is "AHCI" mode, in BIOS, you can choose between these two modes (factory and ALT+F are default to "AHCI").

If SATA Operation is set to AHCI mode in BIOS, SATA driver support is required when installing Windows XP. If the customer buys Windows XP and installs it with a random XP disc, it can be installed smoothly, but if the customer buys a Vista or N system, the problem will occur with a XP disc that does not contain a SATA drive (such as the Windows XP disc that came with an earlier Dell machine).

Since Vista already supports AHCI, there is generally no such problem with installing Vista.

Solution:

Method 1):

In BIOS, set "SATA Operation" to "ATA", and then install Windows XP to make the hard drive work in "ATA" mode

Method 2):

Extract the SATA driver from RCD to the floppy drive and press F6 to install the SATA driver during the installation of Windows XP

Method 3) install the Windows XP CD with SATA driver, the original Windows XP CD of 755 machine, etc.

Method 4) first set BIOS to "ATA" mode, install Windows XP, then install SATA driver manually (this process is tedious), and then change BIOS back to "AHCI" mode.

Note:

Please be careful to modify the "SATA Operation" of BIOS or use ALT+F, which may cause the system not to boot or require a reinstall of the operating system!

For example, after installing Windows XP in ATA mode, directly change BIOS to "AHCI". After starting Windows XP, there is still an error of blue screen 0X0000007B.
