Microsoft has told Gartner that it will not release a new version of Forefront TMG.

Specifically, Microsoft said (oddly enough, this information appears only in this report and not in any other external communication): TMG will be in a continuous engineering mode. Microsoft does not plan to provide firewall and security gateway products in the future. In fact, the TMG product will no longer exist, there will only be some security updates and key bug fixes, there will be no further innovation.

The move surprised many people. From Microsoft ISA servers to integration into the Forefront product line, TMG is considered the "best" product in the areas of security and edge management. Although it is not (some customers think it is) an all-in-one application, it has become a member of Microsoft products because of TMG's intelligence, intuitive stateful packet inspection service, and its Web caching capabilities.

As a result, users who use TMG in their daily network operations will consider where Microsoft's move will lead them. And more importantly, what are their future choices without TMG?

According to the above topology, we will open three virtual machines on the virtual machine (one SERVER 2008 64-bit with dual network cards, one SERVER 2003 with AD/DHCP/DNS integration, and one PC with XP).

The following describes the settings of the network card on the virtual machine:

SERVER 2008 is connected to the external network with a network card

A network card is connected to the intranet.

SERVER 2003 is directly connected to the private network (the private network IP is directly distributed by the DHCP of SERVER 2003)

XP is directly connected to the private network
