In the past two years, we have experienced the AI industry from an idea to a hot reality; we have witnessed face recognition, intelligent security, conversational AI and other technologies come to real life, forming a part of our lives; we have followed Chinese technology companies to grow in the AI wave, witnessed the touching stories of countless AI developers, and watched artificial intelligence being written into the national strategy.

Sometimes when I look back on all this, I feel dazzled, and sometimes I feel that everything is hard to come by. There were too many thoughts in the journey of more than two years, so we decided to organize and record some things. So, yes, the brain Polar body produced its first book-- it's called the Future Apprentice: understanding the Fast Age of artificial Intelligence.

Today I'm going to talk to you about some thoughts and stories about this book.

Time fork

The first question to be explained is, of course, why there is this book.

The main content of the Future Apprentice is to select and collate some of our articles from the second half of 2017 to early 2018, and to supplement and revise them.

At that time, there may be many readers who did not start to pay attention to us, and even many readers did not understand what AI was at that time. Then the content of this book is still very appropriate. Even if you come with us, you may find that the systematic arrangement of AI technology and industry at that time is of great value.

This stems from that time and the special nature of the story that happened.

Starting from the second half of 2017, the technical core of this AI renaissance has gradually become clear, and a diversified attempt has been made on how to establish the connection between AI technology and AI industry. From industrial giants to investors and entrepreneurs, they are paying more and more attention to this field. Although today many enterprises say that they have a long history of AI, it should be admitted that the acceleration of their industry and the upgrading of AI to the main strategy basically took place during the period from 2017 to 2018.

In other words, that time was a very meaningful start. Like a fork in the track, it will affect the direction of the train. After that time fork in time, China's AI industry has moved towards a surging development. So much so that it is rare to hear of any Internet and technology company that is not involved in AI business and intelligence industry.

To understand the future of this track, we must go back to that fork in the road. Although time is not far away, its uniqueness has shined brightly.

Industrial origin

This book "back to 2017" is not just to bring you nostalgia, but we found that today's blooming AI industry, in fact, like a domino, is a chain reaction step by step. The new technology should innovate on the basis of the old technology, and the new industrial action is to solve the old problems.

And the AI news we hear today is more isolated news one by one. Maybe we need to go back to the beginning and understand why industries and companies are doing this. Behind this answer is what we should do, how to find our own shelter in the AI tide, and even the opportunity to fight the waves.

The key cycle of 2017-2018 outlines the logical origin of most of China's AI industry. For example, at last week's Huawei developer conference, Huawei Mobile made it clear that AI was the only core driver in its long-term strategy for the next 5-10 years.

How did this strategy come up? What is its basis and basis? What does AI strategy mean for individuals who want to enter the terminal industry, or enterprises that want to follow the transformation of giants?

For this "Future Apprentice", in fact, we still have a little bit of selfishness, that is, we hope that it can bring a little disenchantment effect to the AI industry, even if only a little bit.

Since I have been in this industry for more than two years, I really feel that it is an extremely difficult job to communicate with people about AI. Even technology practitioners, and even investors who spend a lot of money on AI, have a lot of misunderstandings about this technology and related industries.

Some people think that AI is the tuyere and foam blown out; some people think that AI is a robot; some people describe AI as a threat to human beings, and as soon as they export, they will discuss "AI replaces your job." some people think that AI is omnipotent, and buying an AI will solve all the problems in my enterprise.

There is no doubt that these are all wrong. But what's right?

At least we can guarantee that the content of this book comes from first-hand interviews and follow-up reports at that time. And the content basically starts from the front line of AI, trying to restore what people and enterprises in the core of the industry are doing and thinking. I don't know, we're doing everything we can to make sure this book is reliable.

AI is not an "act of confusion", nor is it a bubble. It is a collection of technological breakthroughs and industrial explorations. It mixes some people's selfish desires and one-sided understanding, and also contains countless AI people's perseverance and breakthroughs.

Moreover, today's AI industry is still a big "unfinished picture".

Finally, talk about the writing style of "brain extreme body" and "Future Apprentice". Friends who are familiar with us all know that we always insist on making AI and technology and industry propositions as simple as possible. While ensuring technical rigor and speculative depth, ordinary readers can easily enter the world of science and technology.

To put it immodestly, there are several remarkable styles of AI-related works today. We divide it into:

1. Captain America style. Anyway, the author is a foreigner, the content is often high-end, but has little to do with the AI stories that happened in China.

2. Iron Man style. Very hard core, full of functions and programming languages, non-technical background readers are basically farewell.

3. Strange Doctor style, whether it is AI or metaphysics, I don't know after reading it, and I don't dare to ask.

In fact, in my opinion, AI is different from many technologies. It aims to imitate human intelligence, involves ever-changing algorithms, and contains a lot of interdisciplinary knowledge. At least in many tech categories, AI can pat on the chest and say: I'm not boring at all.

Therefore, in this book, we have always adhered to the artificial intelligence that liberal arts students can understand, and we even hope that it can become a good AI enlightening reading for teenagers.

To this end, the Future Apprentice selects three categories of content:

2. Extract the true stories of various "AI+ industries", especially the more imaginative ones.

3. Interesting articles that can figure out some future tastes and even industrial opportunities.

People often ask me, what exactly do you think of AI? Will it be great? Will it burst right away?

I have thought about this question for a long time, and now the answer is, take your time.

As content practitioners, we cannot myth AI, nor should we stubbornly scold AI. The so-called understanding precedes love and hate, at this time node, perhaps we should understand the real AI technology and industry status quo. Find out why this happened, what the so-called "insiders" are playing, and what are the needs and opportunities of the entire AI industry. These things are obviously more valuable to most people.

I think everyone has a deep feeling about how much energy the Internet and smartphone, a cross-era technology, contains. What about AI? How far will it go in the future? How much impact will it have on our life, study and work?

We hope to fold these answers in this book the Future Apprentice, hoping to give you a clear look and a smile with you.

To tell you the truth, "brain polar body" is a very bold attempt for me and my team partners. At the beginning of starting a business, there is no self-media with AI as the main content to carry out in-depth analysis and industry interpretation. In other words, we have no object to imitate.

We don't know if we can make AI interesting, whether we need such a self-media in the industry, or even how long the team will survive.

This may also be regarded as a kind of bravery, or recklessness, in the era of AI. Sometimes I think that today's AI world still needs a little bit of folly's honesty, a little bit of reckless impulse to look forward to the intelligent world.

Xu Beihong commented on his artistic style, using eight words: "single-handedly biased and bent on going his own way". Geoffrey Hinton invented deep learning in this way; countless Chinese scientists and technicians pushed the AI industry forward in this way; we also wrote in this way, writing...
