Generally speaking, after the files on the cloud server are completely deleted, they will no longer be on the server and will be cleaned up. But sometimes when we delete the files on the server, we may find that the hard disk space has not been freed. What's going on?

For example, after logging in to the Linux CVM and executing the rm command to delete the file, and executing the df command to check the hard disk space, you may find that the available hard disk space has not increased after deleting the file.

The reason is that when you delete a file through the rm command, other processes are accessing the file, and if you view it by executing the df command, the deleted file will take up space that is not immediately released.

Solution:

1. Execute the lsof | grep deleted command with root permission to view the PID of the process that is using the deleted file.

2. Kill the corresponding process by ordering kill-9 PID.

Rm is a delete command that permanently deletes files or directories specified in the file system. When you delete a file or directory using the rm command, no prompt is generated. The basic format of this command is:

[root@localhost ~] # rm [options] file or directory

Note that the rm command is a destructive command because the rm command permanently deletes files or directories. This means that if a file or directory is not backed up, it cannot be restored once it is deleted using the rm command. Therefore, it is prudent to delete using the rm command.
