When a database backup is fully available, you can restore the database to a point in time in the following ways

Shut down the database and boot to mount

Start restoring the database

RMAN > sql "alter session set nls_date_format=''yyyy-mm-dd hh34:mi:ss''"

Using target database control file instead of recovery catalog

Sql statement: alter session set nls_date_format=''yyyy-mm-dd hh34:mi:ss''

RMAN > restore database until time '2015-05-14 1414 purl 0000'

RMAN > recover database until time '2015-05-14 1414 purl 0000'

RMAN > sql 'alter database open resetlogs'
