Material Shell is a GNOME extension. So, please check your desktop environment and make sure you are running GNOME 3.34 or higher.

In addition, I noticed that after disabling Material Shell, it caused the top bar of the Firefox and the docking station of the Ubuntu to disappear. You can disable / enable Ubuntu docking in GNOME's "expansion" application to change it back to its original form.
