Google bakes it directly into the Chrome browser, a new feature that will help all of us to be more secure online. As senior product manager Abdul Karim Maldini (AbdelKarim Mardini) explained on Google's new company blog, the search giant is adding a feature to Chrome that is similar to what it has been developing for some time and expanded earlier this year. Importantly, when you log in to the site while you are running the Chrome browser, the Chrome browser can launch and remind you if your username and password have been stolen, as part of a well-known data breach.

"Chrome has built-in security protections, which we are extending further," AbdelKarim wrote. "when you enter credentials on a website, Chrome will now warn you if your username and password are compromised due to data leaks on certain websites or applications. It will advise you to make changes wherever you use them."

The post goes on to point out that the feature can be controlled under "synchronization" and "Google Services" under "Chrome Settings". First of all, everyone who logs in to Chrome as part of secure browsing protection has already started to deploy. The latter refers to Google's growing list of sites it considers unsafe. Google claims that the list is refreshed every 30 minutes to protect 4 billion devices a day from phishing and other security threats.

At the same time, other safeguards against Google Chrome include "predictive phishing protection", which warns users when they use their Google account passwords to access sites that Google suspects of engaging in phishing. In addition, this feature will now apply to all passwords stored in the Chrome password Manager.

These and other new privacy features will be added to Google browser in the coming weeks. Today, Google wrote: "many of these technologies were developed at the Google Security Engineering Center, which is the center for privacy and security product experts and engineers in Munich. The center opened in May last year." GSEC is home to the engineering team, who have built a lot of security features in Chrome browsers.

"We will continue to invest in our global team to provide the most secure personal browser experience for everyone, and we look forward to introducing more new features in 2020 to enhance the privacy and security of Chrome browsers."
