Upgrade forest architecture: adprep32.exe / forestprep

Upgrade domain architecture: adprep32.exe / domainprep

Update Group Policy object permissions: adprep32.exe / domainprep / gpprep

Note: if you are not successful in upgrading the domain schema, you may need to upgrade the permissions. Open the domain and trust relationship of the primary domain, select the domain name, and right-click to select upgrade domain functional level-select 2003 to confirm.

Run adprep, which is located in the source\ adprep directory on the windows server 2008 CD. Copy to any partition on 2003 and type: adprep32.exe / forestprep at the command line (for 32-bit systems, run adprep32.exe, for 64-bit systems, run adprep.exe directly)
