However, the app hasn't changed substantially for many years. It's just a basic piece of software in Apple's smart devices. Podcasts are experiencing a renaissance as users' habits of content consumption change.

The audience of monthly podcasts has doubled in the past five years, according to Edison Research. Another factor reflecting the growth potential of podcasts is that the realization of podcasts is far from being fully tapped compared with the commercial revenue of other types of content, such as online video and traditional broadcasting.
