Host I/O Limits

We talked about this feature earlier. Originally, VMAX only supports Imax O priority, and does not support restrictions on IOPS and bandwidth. With this feature now supported, tenants' SLA can be more effectively protected in both public and private cloud environments.

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Support

After the launch of Windows 2012, EMC responded relatively quickly. VMAX introduced three new features for the new features of 2012:

Thin Provisioning Awareness, which means that Windows 2012 can recognize the Thin LUN of VMAX. Because WIN 2012 supports the Thin feature, this awareness provides a lot of convenience for managing Thin from the OS level.

Storage Space Reclamation, this feature supports the space recycling function of Win 2012 (see my previous post on high-end storage space recycling technology for specific recycling principles). This is also one of the new features of WIN 2012.

Offload Data Transfers (ODX), which is a bit like the FULL COPY feature supported by VMWARE VAAI. That is, COPY uninstall. That is, WINDOWS is supposed to COPY a file, but with the cooperation of WINDOWS 2012, OS tells the storage which blocks of data need COPY, and then tells the storage the information to do the work of COPY. In this way, the pressure on the host CPU and Ibank O is greatly reduced. With the use of Hyper-V, it plays an important role in the migration of virtual machines.

Federated Tiered Storage (FTS) Enhancements

We've talked about the features of FTS earlier, and here's a summary of the new features of FTS. The first is the addition of support for VMAX 10K, and the second is support as layer 4, as well as user definition of any layer. Of course, more third-party arrays are supported, and direct connections are also supported, without the need to go through FC switches.

SRDF Enhancements

This block is mainly for 3-site and 4-site disaster recovery solutions to increase the support for FAST VP, the original FAST VP volume only supports 2-site replication, now it is OK. In addition, THICK-to-THIN replication is supported, and both SRDF and CDP protection are supported for the same LUN.

XtremSW Cache VMAX Integration Features

Xtrem IPUBO is a company acquired by EMC. The company specializes in host-based flash acceleration. EMC integrates this technology into VMAX so that VMAX can use the flash memory brought by the host as the first-level Cache of VMAX. Because the flash memory is on the host, the response speed of the application is greatly accelerated. The application of acceleration to the database should be good.

VMAX 10K IBM i Support

IBM I is an all-in-one computer of IBM, which uses a different storage format from P-series minicomputers. Now 10K also adds support for IBM I. In the domestic market, except for some professional areas, it seems that IBM I is not used too much, so we won't say much.
