Connect PACKETEER devices to the network

Connect the LAN side of your network to the port marked "Inside" on the Packeteer device, and then connect the interface of the external network to the port marked "Outside" on the Packeteer device.

If you are connecting Packeteer devices to the network through an Ethernet hub or switch, you can connect them directly using the 10M/100M twisted pair network cable and the RJ45 connector. If you want to connect a Packeteer device directly to a router or server, you must use a cross network cable. If there is a firewall in the network, the Packeteer device should be placed between the firewall and the switch / hub. A cross-network cable is also needed to connect with the firewall.

After the network cable is connected correctly, whenever a Datagram passes through the Packeteer device system, the LED light marked "Tx/Rx" on the front panel of the Packeteer device will light up. Packeteer devices 2500 and above are also equipped with LCD LCD screens to observe "In/Out" traffic.

Parameters to be initialized

In order to enable remote management and configuration of WEB browser decisions, there are several parameters that must be initialized on the Packeteer device. In order to configure initialization parameters, you need a Packeteer device standard terminal or configure a PC as a Packeteer device standard terminal, connect the Packeteer device and the terminal with the serial network cable we provide, or you can directly configure it using the default IP address of the Packeteer device (207.78.98.254). It is worth noting that most windows-based PC operating systems have a terminal emulation program for hyperterminals, which can be used to simulate standard terminals of Packeteer devices. You must configure your terminal to run VT100 interrupt simulation mode with a baud rate of 9600 and 8 bits, hardware data flow control, and no parity.

Start running the system

The position of power on / off is near the power cord. Note Packeteer devices 6500 and 9500 are designed without a power switch, so just connect the power supply directly.

Landing

Set the power switch to the "on" position to start the system.

After the system starts, you will be prompted to enter a user name (login) and password (password). The default user name is touch and the password is empty. But for the first time using Packeteer devices, you can simply enter enter.

After entering the password, the system displays the configuration wizard, and you can complete the initial configuration of the Packeteer device by following the wizard.

Change the password

The default password for the system is empty, and the system allows you to use it as your password. However, we strongly recommend that you change your initial password. As long as it is set to the IP address of the public network, you can access it from anywhere in the Internet.
