Welcome to part 2 of our JMeter Listeners series. In part 1, we introduced having basic listeners. This time we will examine the listeners who integrate the information collected from the sample. This time, we will review the listeners again and can merge listeners that collect information from the sample.

Just to remind you, listeners enable developers and performance testers to monitor JMeter requests and analyze test results. Listeners can aggregate data, process and manage the information in it, and even enable customization.

All listeners can be found by right-clicking the test plan Add- > Listener. The JMeter listener collects data from JMeter elements at the same level or higher. For a more detailed explanation, see the first blog post in this series.

Aggregate Report

The aggregation report listener displays aggregations and statistics for each script example. The report table shows the following KPI for each sample: number of times executed in the script, average (time), median (time), more than 90% (time), more than 95% (time), 99% (time), minimum (time), maximum (time), throughput, error percentage, kilobytes per second. These KPI can be used to track your test performance as well as the health and monitoring trends of your system.

Aggregate Graph

An aggregation chart is similar to an aggregation report in that, in addition to the aggregate data table, it also draws a bar chart of response time metrics for each sample. The following screenshot shows an example of the appearance of an aggregated graphical report:

Graph Results

The graphical results listener displays a line chart of the response time, throughput and deviation of the test system over time.

Generate Summary Results

The generate summary results listener generates a summary report to the log file and the JMeter log. The report format and report file are defined in the JMeter properties file. This screenshot is shown below.

Note that when running tests in CA BlazeMeter, you should remove or disable listeners unless you plan to generate additional log files. This is because they consume resources from the machine or engine on which the test is run.
