The topological structure of the integrated wiring system can be roughly divided into star type, bus type, ring type, hybrid type and so on.

Among them, the bus topology uses a single transmission line as the transmission medium, and all stations are directly connected to the transmission medium through the corresponding hardware interface. The ring topology is composed of network nodes connected into closed loops, and each node is connected to its left and right adjacent nodes. Each topology has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Compared with other methods, star topology has the characteristics of open, easy to maintain, easy to upgrade technology and low failure rate, so it is considered to be the most stable topology. The general data center cabling system adopts a hierarchical star topology.

The star topology has a unique forwarding node, and each computer is connected to the central node through a separate communication line, which can easily provide services and configure new network nodes. the failure of a single connection point affects only one device and does not affect the whole network, and the modular star structure design is easy to detect and isolate faults, which is convenient for system maintenance and fault analysis.

In the star topology of the data center cabling system, it includes basic elements such as horizontal cabling, backbone cabling, equipment cabling, cross-connection of the main wiring area, cross-connection of the horizontal wiring area, regional sockets or assembly points in the regional wiring area, and information sockets in the equipment wiring area.

Among them, the horizontal wiring includes horizontal cables, terminal wiring equipment, equipment cables, jumpers, and regional sockets or assembly points in the regional distribution area. The horizontal wiring system between the connection port of the equipment wiring area and the horizontal cross-connection wiring module of the horizontal wiring area cannot contain a collection point of more than one regional wiring area.

The connection port of each equipment distribution area of horizontal wiring shall be connected to the horizontal cross-connect wiring module of the horizontal distribution area or the main distribution area through horizontal cables.

The backbone wiring also adopts a first-class star topology structure, which connects the main wiring area, the horizontal wiring area and the incoming wiring room. Backbone cabling includes backbone cables, main cross-connect and horizontal cross-connect wiring modules, equipment cables and jumpers.

As for the transmission distance of the link and channel of the wiring system, as well as many factors affecting the transmission loss, it needs further planning and design. It should be pointed out here that in the design based on the star topology, it should be taken into account that during each useful life of the cabling system, it should be adapted to the business requirements and infrastructure changes as far as possible to facilitate maintenance and avoid reinstallation of the equipment.
