2013 is a year of accelerating changes in China's IT market. In the area of data centers, energy efficiency management remains the most prominent issue. Dr. Huang Chen Hong, senior vice president of Schneider Electric and president of APC Greater China, said at a recent media conference that the cost of IT in the future will be determined by energy. Due to rising energy costs, companies will strive to find ways to manage energy more effectively and reduce energy use. Building a green and efficient IT will be the top priority for enterprises to achieve sustainable development.

Statistics show that although energy cost has become the largest operating cost of enterprises, accounting for about 1/3 of the total operating cost, but because energy cost is a controllable item of operating costs, users can achieve effective energy cost savings as long as they choose appropriate energy-saving equipment and deploy a comprehensive energy management plan.

More and more enterprises are spending more of their budgets on energy management. Data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software, scalable modules, and prefabricated data center solutions have become the focus of enterprises and users because they can significantly improve the energy efficiency of the data center. Spending related to data center infrastructure management grew by more than 20 per cent in 2013 and will reach $690 million by 2016, according to Frost & Sullivan.

In 2013, the development of the entire IT market was relatively difficult, but it was under such circumstances that APC under Schneider Electric still achieved fruitful results: UPS market share remained the first, air conditioning market share second, industrial power UPS market share first, cloud data center solutions achieved a comprehensive breakthrough, sales of Yingfei integrated solutions grew steadily, and StruXureWare data center management platform blossomed. Huang Chenhong said: "from a technical and market perspective, we are leaders. The advantages of the brand, rich solutions and products, and excellent sales team are important support for our continuous progress."

In 2014, the strategy of APC under Schneider Electric will focus on the following four areas: first, to maintain a leading position and lead the development of the industry through continuous innovation in data center power supply, cooling, security and software; second, to provide various types of modular data center solutions according to user needs; and third, to provide data center lifecycle services. Fourth, research and landing software-defined data center concept, StruXureWare data center management platform as an important tool to achieve software-defined data center will become the focus of promotion.

Huang Chenhong said that 2014 will be a year for Schneider Electric's APC to move from success to excellence. In order to achieve this goal, Huang Chenhong has made a plan, which mainly includes the following three aspects. First, based on the Chinese market, both product research and development and localization of programs should be grasped, and both should be hard. Specifically, the research and development of products must be in line with the characteristics of the Chinese market, meet the needs of Chinese customers, and pay special attention to the cost performance of the products. The core content of product and solution localization is to achieve on-demand customization and provide users with modular and prefabricated data center solutions.

Second, continuously improve solutions, including Infineon and Mini Infineon solutions as well as Schneider Electric data center overall solutions. Infineon Integrated solution, which has been on the market for a decade, is a model of modular data center infrastructure, leading the development of a modular and integrated data center infrastructure construction model. Huang Chenhong hopes that in the future, Infineon and Mini Infineon solutions can play a more important role in enterprise computer rooms, cloud access solutions and data center upgrading projects. Schneider Electric's overall data center solution includes Schneider Electric's data center lifecycle services and new achievements in software-defined data centers.

Third, deepen the industry, take advantage of the general trend of integration, intensive cultivation in the energy, transportation, medical, manufacturing and other industries, while looking for more business opportunities in the construction of cloud computing green data centers.
