Recently, the company has been experiencing a situation where the pool pool of EMC storage is full, resulting in the need to remove LUN from VMware to free storage space, and record this process to facilitate future learning.

First of all, the idea of removing storage from VMware is to uninstall and then delete LUN from the VMware level, then delete the LUN from the host group in EMC, and finally delete the LUN, so that pool will automatically reclaim storage resources (recovery will take about 3-5 minutes).

Steps:

Delete LUN after uninstalling in VMware storage. It is best to migrate the hosts on the LUN to other LUN before uninstalling, otherwise the VMware will also make the action of migrating the virtual machine hosts during the uninstall process.

Second, delete the information of the LUN from the storage host group in the EMC management interface. For our company, each host needs to be deleted.

After deleting LUN information from the information of each ESXI host, delete LUN.

After the LUN is deleted, the pool will actively reclaim the capacity of the lun, and the available capacity of the displayed pool will be increased.
