Archiving: the redo log is archived and rewritten to the new redo log file. The process of log switching is called log swith, and checkpoints are generated during the switch. All the data prior to the checkpoint has been archived.

There are at least two redo log groups in the oracle database:

View the mode of the current oracle instance:

Select name,log_mode from v$database

The whole process of changing to archive mode:

Shutdown immediae

Start mount

Alter database archivelog

Alter database open

Archive log list
