1. VCenter is the core of vSphere basic physical architecture, which provides access control, performance monitoring and configuration sharing functions. Multiple esxi host resources can be centralized and shared to act as central administrators of esxi hosts.

2. Three necessary components:

1) vCenter single sign-on (SSO): authentication service

2) vCenter inventory Service: inventory service: storing vCenter applications and manifest data

3) vSphere Web vClient:web management tools: use web browsers to manage esxi host applications through vCenter. All the new features above 5.0 can only be used through web client.

3. Installation requirements:

1) operating system must have a minimum of 64-bit server 2008 SP2 and must have a database (either oracle or sql server)

2) hardware requirements: cpu at least dual-core 64-bit, memory 12 GB, list memory: small list 1G, medium list 2G, large list 3G

3) all servers (except esxi) need to join the domain and specify the dns server address

4) disable and stop the reportserver service of sql, and other services are started and set to automatic
