If our computer has both VMware virtual machine software and XAMPP installed, the following error is often reported when starting XAMPP:

Problemdetected!

[Apache] Port 443 in use by "D:\ Program Files (x86)\ vmware8\ vmware-hostd.exe"-u "C:\ ProgramData\ VMware\ hostd\ config.xml"with PID 3036!

[Apache] Apache WILL NOT start without theconfigured ports free!

[Apache] Youneed to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application or reconfigureApache and the Control Panel to listen on a different port

Tip: Port 443 is occupied by the vmware-hostd.exe process, causing Apache to fail to start. This is because vmware-hostd.exe uses port 443 by default, and it starts automatically by default.

Apache's httpd service defaults to port 80, while httpd-ssl defaults to port 443. This leads to a conflict on port 443.

There are two solutions:

Option 1: modify the httpd-ssl.conf configuration file to change port 443 to other idle ports (such as 4430).

Plan 2: change the automatic start of vmware-hostd.exe to manual start and stop it. Right-click the computer icon on the desktop, select "manage → Services and applications → Services", change the startup type of the service with the display name "VMware Workstation Server" to manual, and stop the service, as shown in the following figure:

Finally, restart xampp!

Description: either of the above two methods is fine. The second method generally does not affect the normal use of VMware. The description of the VMware Workstation Server service is "Remote access service for registration andmanagement of virtual machines.", that is, it is related to remote administration VMware. We don't usually use the remote access capabilities of VMvare, so the second approach has little impact.
