Less than a day later, an American retailer mistakenly (and prematurely) published a pre-order list for EOS Ra on its website, revealing all the knowledge of professional cameras in celestial photography. However, Canon is now officially listed, and EOS Ra has pre-ordered it in most markets.

The announcement confirms our understanding of the new camera-its headline is that the IR cutoff filter is in front of the same 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor shared by its EOS R siblings.

Compared with other standard cameras, this filter makes this camera four times more sensitive to hydrogen alpha light (656 nm wavelengths emitted by celestial bodies) than other standard cameras-if you are keen to photograph the night sky, you must capture details in the crimson spectrum, including not only stars but also nebulae.

Almost every modern camera has the ability to capture the night sky, but if you want to magnify dust clouds and nebulae in a dark, flickering dome, they can't.

In order to capture stunning images of the late-night starry sky, professional astronomical photographers need to surround a lot of equipment, including guiding binoculars, cameras and tripods. Although you still need some kits, Canon promises that its latest full-frame mirrorless camera is by far the smallest and most portable astrophotography snapshot, making it a better choice to add to the astrophotographer's camera kit.

To ensure that users can accurately focus on celestial bodies, the rear touch LCD screen on the EORA provides three magnification for real-time image display-1 times (actual size), 5 times and 30 times.

Everything else (both physically and graphically) is the same as EOS R, including the Digic 8 imaging engine under the hood and the equally excellent 5655-point phase detection AF system. Even the battery and SD card weigh exactly the same as the 660g EOS R.

EOS Ra will go on sale in December, priced at $2499 in the US and £2580 in the UK. The price in Australia has not yet been determined, but after simple conversion, the cost of the car body is about A $3600.
