This article will explain in detail how the risks of running Windows 10 on 4K monitors are, the quality of the article is high, so Xiaobian shares it with you as a reference, I hope you have a certain understanding of relevant knowledge after reading this article.

As you may already know, I purchased a brand new 4K monitor from LG last month to further boost productivity and see how good 4K is on Windows. I used to work on HP Full HD monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080, and while that worked fine for a long time, I often had problems, especially when displaying two browser windows at once.

The biggest problem is that many sites increase the minimum width needed to display content correctly. Previously, I could display most sites side-by-side, and they would display well, but the time I spent zooming them in increased dramatically.

4K monitors work well on Windows 10 devices; when resolution is detected immediately and Windows loads generic drivers, it's not hard to download the latest drivers and color profiles from LG to install the monitor.

Windows 10 automatically sets the display scale to 150% to ensure that the size of text, apps, and other items is not too small on the device; this works well for native Windows controls and some built-in apps.

The biggest problem users of 4K monitors may encounter is that many Win32 programs do not support high-resolution displays. Although you can still run these programs, you will notice text and information displayed in a nearly unreadable form (unless you have good vision, but even then your vision suffers over time).

Take QuiteRSS, my favorite feed reader; this is how the program displays on a 4K monitor by default:

The words are readable, but at least in my opinion, it puts pressure on the eyes. Many programs offer options for dealing with this problem. QuiteRSS allows you to change font sizes and other parameters in options.

The problem is that since there are no global settings that you can adjust, you can only make adjustments for each program running on the system.

Worse, some programs, especially older programs that are no longer updated, may not provide these settings at all. When using these programs, you can use the magnifying glass on the screen, but this is not a real solution.

Even if the program is still actively under development, it may not be able to support high DPI perfectly. Popular apps such as PeaZip have only recently been updated, while others such as the new Malwarebytes 4.0 may still have higher DPI issues.

But tiny text and interface elements are only part of the problem. If you run windows 10 on multiple monitors (as I had to test it), you might notice that text is fuzzy, elements look size too large, or elements look fuzzy. Microsoft has a support page on its website highlighting Windows scaling issues.

Programs like DPI Fix were created to solve this problem.

One solution to the latter problem is to disable display scaling on high DPI settings. You simply right-click the program executable and select Properties from the context menu. Here you can switch to the Compatibility tab and activate the Change High DPI Settings button to turn on DPI options.

Set Use this setting to resolve scaling issues for this program, not issues in settings to When I open this program.

Check the High DPI Scale Overrides option Overrides High DPI Scale behavior. Scale By and set it to System.

About the risk of running Windows 10 on a 4K display is what to share here, I hope the above content can be of some help to everyone, you can learn more knowledge. If you think the article is good, you can share it so that more people can see it.
