Streams MessagingManager (SMM) is an operational monitoring and management tool that provides end-to-end visibility in an enterprise ApacheKafka ®environment. You can learn about the end-to-end flow of message flows from producers to Topic to consumers. SMM helps you troubleshoot your Kafka environment to identify bottlenecks, throughput, consumer patterns, traffic, and so on. SMM enables you to use various filters to analyze the flow dynamics between producers and consumers. SMM also provides early warning notification and early warning strategy, which can better provide early warning and monitoring of Kafka.

An overview of early warning strategy

The alert policy sends notifications through the notification program based on the conditions that you configure in the alert policy.

You can configure an alert policy in Streams Messaging Manager (SMM). When an early warning policy is triggered, SMM creates an early warning. Early warning includes the details of the strategy, including early warning messages and the conditions under which early warning is triggered. You can use these alerts to monitor the health of different Kafka entity types, latency, and Kafka cluster replication in the system, and to identify and troubleshoot problems.

You can modify the alert policy name, description, and enable or disable the alert policy. You can also delete the early warning policy.

When you navigate to the Alerts window, the Alert Overview page is displayed, as shown in the following figure:

You can view a list of alerts that occurred in the system up to that date on the History page. You can check the title, timestamp details, component name, type, status, and payload information for alerts. You can click Show more to view the full load details of the alert. Click Action > Mark as read Mark all alerts as read. You can also click the close icon for each alert to mark the alert as read.

You can configure the notifier in Streams Messaging Manager (SMM). You can modify the notifier name, description, and enable or disable the notifier.
