Microsoft this week launched a new Microsoft Defender Preview application for Android and Windows devices. Currently, the application is only available in the United States, but with more testing, it may expand to other regions.

Microsoft Defender, the company's anti-malware tool, has been on Windows for some time, and it is also available on Android at some capacity of Microsoft Defender ATP, which is only available to business users. The new preview version of Microsoft Defender allows you to manage not only the security of your current devices, but also the security of all devices connected to the same Microsoft account. On the home page, you can view a summary of the protection status on all devices, as shown below.

You can click or click the panel to view more information about the status of each device. Here, you can see the number of applications and links scanned (on Android) or files (on Windows) in the past 24 hours. On Windows, you can also view current settings for virus and threat protection, blackmail software protection, and so on. If you want to view past threats, you can also view your security history.

To Windows users, this does not seem to be a complete replacement for Windows Security, but a complement to it, or a new version of UI that may eventually replace the built-in application. On Android, the usefulness of an antivirus application is questionable, but it can tell you whether a potentially malicious application is installed.

The most useful feature you may get from this is actually the ability to view the security status of all devices in the same location. It is especially useful if you share your PC with others, so you can check on your phone to see if other users have installed or downloaded malware.
