The FTP protocol operates in the following two modes.

1. Active mode: FTP server initiates a connection request to the client.

2. Passive mode: the FTP server waits for the client to initiate a connection request (the default working mode of FTP).

Vsftpd service program

As a more secure file transfer service program, vsftpd allows users to log in to the FTP server in three authentication modes.

1. Anonymous open mode (/ var/ftp): it is the most insecure authentication mode, and anyone can log in to the FTP server directly without password authentication.

2. Local user mode (local user's home directory): it authenticates through the local account password information of the Linux system, which is more secure than the anonymous open mode, and is easy to configure. However, if the account information is cracked by HK, you can log in to the FTP server without hindrance, thus taking complete control of the entire server.

3. Virtual user mode (mapping the user's home directory): it is the most secure authentication mode among the three modes. It needs to create a user database file for FTP service separately and virtual out the account information used for password verification, but these account information actually does not exist in the server system and is only used for authentication by FTP service programs.

NFS network file system

. The NFS (Network File system) service can mount the file sharing resources on the remote Linux system to the directory of the local host, thus making the local host (Linux client) read and write shared files on the remote Linux system based on the TCP/IP protocol as if it were using resources on the local host.
