The ­KDE project team released today the eighth maintenance update of the KDE Plasma 5.8 desktop environment, fixing a total of 24 issues. "Today, the KDE team released an update to the LTS maintenance version for the Plasma 5 branch-5.8.8 LTS. Plasma 5.8 LTS was released last October with a number of feature improvements and new modules," the Plasma team wrote in a statement today.

­among the BUG fixes in this update, the most noteworthy is that it fixes the crash of the Plasma Discover installation package Manager update application, and supports reading the CPU clock rate from cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq instead of / proc/cpuinfo, and improves the appearance and experience of notifications.

­KDE Plasma 5.8 branch will be discontinued in April 2018, and the last maintenance version 5.8.9 is scheduled to be launched on April 10, 2018, after which you need to upgrade to the new LTS version, the KDE Plasma 5.12 branch.

­KDE Plasma 5.12 branch is scheduled to be launched on January 30th, 2018.
