Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

With the rapid development of science and technology, in order to improve the work efficiency of employees and complete the business process efficiently, many large and medium-sized enterprises use Office 365 as the platform for enterprise data management and personnel communication and exchange, so as to gradually abandon the old office mode and move towards a paperless office atmosphere. At present, employee mobility has become the norm of enterprise management, so when an employee leaves the organization, keep his or her email for the employee to return to your organization, or another employee will provide the content in the Mailbox to the user when he or she takes over the duties of the former employee. It is the focus of the IT staff.

Earlier, the management model for Office 365 accounts and Mailbox:

After the account is deleted, the associated Mailbox belongs to soft deleted mode. Once the account is restored within 30 days, the associated Mailbox and content are also restored; if the account is not restored for more than 30 days, its account and data will be permanently deleted. If an account is forcibly deleted from Recycle Bin through the PowerShell command, the Mailbox and its contents associated with the account will be deleted unless Litigation Hold or In-Place Hold is set by Mailbox.

Since May 2016, the EXO project team has announced a new management model:

After the account is deleted, the associated Mailbox belongs to an inactive mailbox, and once the account is restored within 30 days, the associated Mailbox and content are also restored; if the account is not restored for more than 30 days, its account and data will be permanently deleted. If the account is forcibly deleted from the Recycle Bin through the PowerShell command, the mailbox and its contents associated with the account will be retained regardless of whether you have configured Litigation Hold or In-Place Hold. Because the Mailbox is not associated with the License of Office 365, the inactive mailbox at this time also belongs to Orphaned Mailbox, and the Mailbox can only be restored through PowerShell, but not in the Exchange Online console.

The purpose of this article is to update the logical changes of EXO and recommend a friendly way to manage Orphaned Mailbox: restore the Mailbox to another newly created account, and the steps will cover:

Connect to Exchange online using Windows PowerShell to create a new user reconnect to Ophaned Mailbox

Connecting to Exchange Online using the Windows PowerShell of the local computer involves the following three steps:

System requirements for linking to Exchange Online:

By default, it is not configured and will see the following error message when you try to connect:

Files cannot be loaded because running scripts is disabled on this system. Provide a valid certificate with which to sign the files.

To enable its script, open Windows PowerShell and run the following command in the window by selecting run as administrator: Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

The specific steps to connect to the Exchange Online are as follows:

3. Create a new user and associate Ophaned Mailbox successfully, as shown in the following figure:

Using this user to access Outlook Online, you can see that the content is the same as before, as shown in the figure:

Note: after restoring an inactive mailbox, an IT administrator is also required to activate this user account and assign a license for Office 365 for this account.
