The market capitalization of a column of varchars (30) named AX needs to be added to the numeric field, and there is an error "converting from data type varchar to numeric" using select cast (AX as decimal (12J 2)).

However, using select cast (AX as float) is correct.

There seems to be a difference between float and decimal.
