Time synchronization between nodes is very important for Oracle. Before 11g version, time synchronization is often completed by setting up a NTP server. A new CTSS (Cluster Time Synchronization Services, Cluster time synchronization Service) service has been added to Oracle 11g to complete time synchronization among cluster nodes. During the installation of Grid Infrastructure, if no NTP service is found on the node, CTSS will be installed automatically.

1. NTP time synchronization service configuration

NTP is a traditional time synchronization service, which often has a special time synchronization server in an enterprise. In this case, NTP can still be used to synchronize the time between nodes.

2. CTSS time synchronization service configuration

In the 11gR2 version, Oracle launched its own time synchronization service, which is only valid on all nodes of a RAC and is not synchronized with the time of other systems. If you want to use CTSS to synchronize time, in addition to stopping and disabling automatic restart of the NTP service, the / etc/ntp.conf configuration file is not allowed to exist. Perform the following steps to clear the NTP service.

(1) stop the NTP service

/ sbin/service ntpd stop

(2) disable NTP server self-startup

Chkconfig ntpd off

(3) delete or rename the NTP configuration file

Rm / etc/ntp.conf

Or:

Mv / etc/ntp.conf / etc/ntp.conf.bak

This clears the NTP completely, and the CTSS is automatically created when you install Grid Infrastructure.

3. CTSS check failed

The following error may occur in the last step of installing Grid Infrastructure:

INFO: CTSS is in Active state. Proceeding with check of clock time offsets on all nodes...

INFO: PRVF-9661: Time offset is NOT within the specified limits on the following nodes:

INFO: "[rhel2]"

INFO: PRVF-9652: Cluster Time Synchronization Services check failed

INFO: Post-check for cluster services setup was unsuccessful on all the nodes.

The ways to deal with the above errors are as follows:

1) determine whether the time zones of all RAC nodes are the same.

2) excessive time interval will cause CTSS check to fail. Therefore, adjust the time of the host manually before performing this step to ensure that the time between hosts is consistent.

2.5.9 install the cvuqdisk package

Step 1 upload the installation package.

Use sftp to upload Grid Infrastructure and Database installation media to the / u01/soft directory. The two products contain the following three zip packages:

Q linux.x64_11gR2_grid.zip

Q linux.x64_11gR2_database_1of2.zip

Q linux.x64_11gR2_database_2of2.zip

Linux.x64_11gR2_grid.zip is the installation package for Grid Infrastructure, and linux.x64_11gR2_database_ 1of2.zip and linux.x64_11gR2_database_2of2.zip are two installation packages for Database. You need to unpack these two packages to the same directory before installing Database in order to install Database correctly.

Step 2 install cvuqdisk.

Extract the linux.x64_11gR2_grid.zip file, locate cvuqdisk-1.0.7-1.rpm in the extracted grid/rpm directory, and execute the following cvuqdisk package installation command:

# CVUQDISK_GRP=oinstall; export CVUQDISK_GRP

# rpm-ivh cvuqdisk-1.0.7-1.rpm

Transfer this file to other cluster nodes via sftp, and install the package as described above.

2.5.10 CVU verifies the installation environment

It is necessary to use the CVU tool to verify that the current environment has the conditions to build Oracle RAC before installation. By using this tool, you can also find configuration problems before performing a specific installation. Execute the following command to check the installation environment:

. / runcluvfy.sh stage-pre crsinst-n rhel1,rhel2-fixup-verbose

Check: Membership of user "grid" in group "dba"

There should be no failure in the verification process. The reason for the above user verification failure is that the CVU tool cannot identify the asmadmin, asmdba, and asmoper groups specified for grid users, and it still uses the dba operating system group as the judgment criterion, so report this error. This error can be ignored when ensuring that the grid user group is set correctly.
