This article will explain in detail what is the difference between Poppers operating OS and Ubuntu. The editor thinks it is very practical, so I share it with you as a reference. I hope you can get something after reading this article.

Compare Ubuntu with Poppy operating system

Finding similarities can help you distinguish between other differences. So let's start with some obvious similarities.

As I mentioned, Poppy powered OS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu. Therefore, when you use the Poppy powered OS, you will get all the benefits of using Ubuntu (technically, the core is the same).

They all come with a GNOME desktop environment by default, so they have a similar user interface (UI).

Without discussing all the underlying differences, I will highlight some important differences here.

User experience and theme

Pop!_OS

Many users think that Poppy powered OS is just a Ubuntu with a different appearance.

Based on my experience, I don't think this is entirely correct.

Yes, they both love the GNOME desktop environment-but Poppy desktop OS makes people feel more beautiful.

In addition to the look and feel, Ubuntu customizes the GNOME experience by adding docks and other tricks. If you like the customized GNOME experience, you may find it better.

However, if you prefer a pure GNOME experience, this is what Poppers offers you by default.

I can't convince you until you try it yourself. However, the overall color scheme, icons, and themes in Popeye colors OS can be said to be a pleasant advanced user experience.

This may be a subjective thing, but this is what I have observed. You can also check out the video tutorials of Ubuntu 19.10 and experience for yourself.

Easy to install third-party applications

Pop Os PPA

Ubuntu attaches great importance to Snap software packages. This increases the number of applications it provides.

But there are some important problems with the Snap software package. They take up too much disk space and take a lot of time to start.

This is why I prefer to use the APT version of the application.

Why would I say that?

This is because Poppy powered OS has its own official PPA, which is enabled by default. You will find some useful applications here, such as Android Studio and TensorFlow. There is no need to download Android Studio's 1GB large Snap package. Just use apt-get install.

Preinstalled application

Ubuntu installation slideshow

For some, it may not be the biggest problem, but having a large number of pre-installed applications can affect the experience and performance. Even if it does not affect performance, some users prefer fewer pre-installed applications.

Compared to Ubuntu, the Poppy powered OS bundles fewer default applications (potentially reducing fat software).

Once again, this is a subjective view. If you want to pre-install more applications, you can consider using Ubuntu instead of Popping applications OS.

Snap package support

For users who are familiar with Snap packages, Ubuntu's software center is a better solution than the Popper packages OS Store, because you can list Snap packages in the software center.

You cannot filter the Snap package in the Software Center, but it is easier to install it when you find a Snap package in the Software Center (see "Snap store" / "Snapcraft" for details of the application source).

You may be confused, but the Poppy packages OS does support Snap packages. However, you won't find them in the Poppers stores. That's the only difference.

If you are not sure what the Snap package is and its functions, you can check out our article "installing Snap applications on Linux".

Separate NVIDIA/AMD ISO files

ISOs

Technically, it is not part of the internal comparison, but a factor of concern to some users.

Therefore, it is worth emphasizing that the Poppy powered OS provides a separate ISO. One is for systems with NVIDIA video cards, and the other is for systems with / without AMD video cards.

With Ubuntu 19.10, you can get the NVIDIA driver on Ubuntu ISO, but AMD graphics cards don't have this.

Reliability and problems

There is no doubt that both distributions are suitable for beginners and are quite reliable. If you want better reliability and fewer problems, you may want to use the long term support (LTS) version all the time.

When a new version of Ubuntu is available, the Popper developers OS will be developed on it, and it will be possible to resolve the problems encountered by users in the original release of Ubuntu before making a new upgrade. This gives them an advantage, but it doesn't make a real difference, because these fixes can eventually be applied to Ubuntu.

Performance

Performance will highly depend on what you install and the hardware configuration you install.

Unless you have a super old system, both distributions seem to perform well.

My machine is an i5-7400 processor and 16GB's RAM (with a GTX 1050ti graphics card), and I find the experience on both distributions good enough.

Of course, you can manually make some optimizations to meet the requirements-no matter which one of them does not meet your hardware configuration.

However, if you want to use a System76 laptop, then Popper laptop OS will prove to be Apple in the Linux field, because Popper laptop OS is tailored to its hardware, unlike the Ubuntu.

Hardware compatibility

This is definitely something to consider when comparing other Linux distributions. However, in this case, there is actually not much difference.

You might consider that Poppers has been using newer hardware configurations because they are mainly tailor-made OS with various configurations for their laptops. Moreover, this is an observation, not a fact.
