On Tuesday, Google announced that it would fix Chrome and related WebView software and cancel access to data stored in some Android apps. Google stopped posting updates after the data was lost and apologized for the issue in a statement on Tuesday.

Chrome 79 and related versions of WebView allow developers to use web programming techniques in their Android applications without deleting data. However, an update to Chrome 79 released last week prevented applications from accessing the data, which led to problems such as the inability to access saved games and in-game rewards. By repairing old data, this patch clears all saved new files or affected people.

Fewer people are affected than initially thought. According to error reports, Google suspended distribution of software to 50% of millions of Android users, but in fact, less than 15% of users sent updates.
