Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

Always want to do a detailed virtualization practice documentation, most of what is found on the network is to simulate the installation of ESXI in VM WORKSTATION, in fact, there is some difference between the simulation installation and the actual installation. In this paper, according to the actual operation, step by step record the ESXI installation process and the problems encountered, and record the solution to the problem, hope to learn ESXI or interested friends to communicate.

First of all, prepare the server and hard disk you need. This time you use 2 600g SAS 15K hard drives and 3 4TB SATA 7.2K hard drives. The plan is to use 2 600g hard drives as RAID1, which is mainly used to install ESXI and virtual machine system, and 3 4TB hard drives as RAID5, which are used as data storage disks for virtual machines.

Insert the hard disk into the disk bit in turn. 0-1 is 600G, and 2-4 is 4TB.

When waiting for the prompt CTRL+R after power on, press CTRL+R to enter the raid card configuration.

You can see that the raid card has identified these 5 hard drives and listed them. Familiar pictures, familiar recipes.

All right, create the RAID1 disk group, as shown in the following figure.

Then create the RAID5 disk group, as shown in the following figure.

Restart the server after the RAID is created, and press F11 to enter the startup management menu, as shown below.

Waiting to start.

Select One-shot BIOS Boot Menu.

Select [Hard driver] Disk connected to back USB 2:Data Trraveler 2.0.

It should be noted here that I have prepared an ESXI installation flash drive in advance and plugged it into the USB port on the back of the server. The ESXI installation image can be downloaded from the official DELL website, and it is strongly recommended to download it from the official website, because the official ESXI system integrates the drivers required by the DELL physical server. As shown in the following picture, and use the tool to make the boot U disk.

At this point, you can see the screen of booting from the USB disk, there are two options, one is to install ESXI, and the other is to boot from the local hard drive.

After choosing to install ESXI, you can wait for the progress of installation.

Wait quietly, the installation is still very fast, all you can do is look forward to the progress, do not stop, do not report errors.

Start scanning the hard drive at the end of the progress

Dangdang, at this time there is a strange phenomenon, only found a 7.28T RAID5 disk group and a U disk, where is the 600G RAID1 disk set?

After searching for information on the Internet, it is found that ESXI6.5 only supports 512e hard disk (ordinary hard disk is 512n), but 4kn hard disk does not support it. And I use exactly the 4kn hard drive, as shown in the following picture.

No way, can only go to the DELL official website to download the ESXI6.7 version, it is said to have supported 4kn hard drive.

Repeat the above steps to make a boot disk, restart the server to boot from the USB disk, and the expected screen appears, as shown in the following figure.

Continue with the following steps to select the keyboard layout, default US.

Set the system password.

Ready to install ESXI6.7.

However, it is often a good thing, the world is unpredictable, and there is a mistake, as shown in the following picture.

Something went wrong, the external disk partition could not be mounted, the partition table of the disk could not be read and so on.

Anyway, it's "failed".

There is certainly nothing wrong with the disk hardware itself, because it is almost a new hard drive, a 600g hard drive has been used once or twice elsewhere, and 4TB's are all new hard drives. How many times has the 600g hard drive been used before it breaks down? It doesn't exist. Reboot and check the disk again. The hard drive shows no problem in RAID mode. But come to think of it, all the hard drives haven't been reformatted, so it would be nice to reformat them, but ESXI doesn't seem to provide similar features.

But seek the effect, do not seek the method, immediately use the disk management command function of the windows installation disk, and find that the available size of the 600g RAID1 disk group is 0 seconds!

No matter three, seven or twenty-one, use the clean command to clear the disk, and then list it out, and find that there is available disk capacity.

It is suspected that this 600G hard drive was used before, and there was some other RAID information in it.

After obtaining the available capacity of the hard disk, restart the server and then enter the ESXI installation. Perfect discovery of 600G disk pack.

The expected installation progress occurs after entering the car.

After all the installation is completed, the system prompts you to restart the server, and you need to unplug the ESXI system U disk, and restart after doing so.

After the restart, the following screen appears, what kind of divine operation is this?

No disk or operating system was found.

Depressed ah, where is the disk just now? Where is the ESXI that was just installed?

After some inquiry, it turned out to be the ghost of the boot mode. This server was originally installed with windows server 2008r2, and the startup mode defaults to BIOS. After rebooting, enter BIOS and change Boot Mode to UEFI.

Save the settings and restart the server, the familiar screen appears again, and there is no need to express your satisfaction.

After the installation is completed, an operation interface appears. First, F2 enters the configuration menu.

Prompt to configure the system password, set it and press enter.

Go to the configuration menu, select Configure Managenent Network, and configure the IP address of the network card.

Select IPv4 Congiguration

Choose to set the static IP address and set the IP address.

Select DNS Configuration if necessary, enter the DNS configuration, and set up the DNS.

Find another computer, ping to ESXI, as shown below.

The ESXI interface displays the IP address set by the system.

At this point, the ESXI virtualization platform is installed.

The ESXI virtualization platform is only an underlying architecture, and virtual server systems need to be installed on this platform.

Enter the platform for configuration according to the address.

How familiar the taste reminds me of the food in my hometown.

Enter the previously set account and password. The default account is: root

After entering the operating platform, what is displayed is some information about the physical server, and there are some hints, the most important thing is to remind you that this is a trial version and you need to purchase a license to use it for a long time. First of all, we enter the license menu, select assign license, and then enter some strings, there are many on the Internet, and then click to check the license, we are done, and the license is obtained.

Some people say it is time to build a virtual machine, there is no hurry, it seems that we have not used those 4TB hard drives, we can not forget the original intention, is used to put data. Just follow the picture below.

After the operation is complete, you can see the storage capacity of the 7.27TB in the storage.

Then we took the most important step, creating a virtual server.

First do a simple 2003, because 2003 of the ISO file is the smallest and the fastest to upload.

At this point, let's choose which storage area to install the 2003 in, of course, choose a 600g, 15K speed hard drive.

The next step is to allocate some configuration of the virtual machine, according to the actual needs.

It should be noted that the default installation media is the CD driver of the physical server, which can be plugged directly into the CD.

If you don't have a CD, don't worry, you can upload the ISO image directly and load the ISO file like a virtual CD-ROM drive.

Expand the CD/DVD drive menu and select "data Storage ISO File". A dialog box will pop up for you to select the ISO file, but the new hard drive does not have an ISO file, so we click "upload".

I created an ISO folder to store images before uploading, and click "create Directory" to complete it.

Then click upload to select the ISO file on the local disk, and confirm that there will be a stutter, which makes people feel that you have not started the illusion of uploading. Do not click upload again at this time, wait a few seconds, and the progress bar appears to indicate that the upload has started.

When the progress is completed, the uploaded ISO files will be listed. After we select the species, click "Select".

After clicking finish, a virtual machine just named 2003 will appear in the list of virtual machines.

Click on the virtual machine, enter the virtual machine menu, and then select [Power on].

After the virtual machine boots, click the console, you will find that there is a control that we need to install, otherwise we may not be able to perform a direct operation on the virtual machine.

Download and install the controls, and then click the 2003 screen in the interface, you can pop up a directly operable console screen, similar to the remote desktop bar. The next step is to install the system step by step.

After the installation, we first set the IP address of the virtual machine to see if the virtual machine and the physical machine can communicate.

Take other computers in the local area network to test, there is no problem with ping virtual machines.

Next, it's time for the virtual machine server to serve us, and what we need can be done like a physical server.

Similarly, you can install Server 2008, 2012, 2016, Linux, etc. As long as the physical hardware is sufficient, you can create several virtual servers and let one physical server act as the carrier of dozens of virtual servers.

Careful friends must have found some clues. When creating a virtual machine, a 30G disk is set by default. This must be disk C, and it must also be on a 600G high-speed disk.

The disk file shows that the virtual disk is on top of the datastore1.

It is also easy to add a data disk. Click "Edit" in the virtual machine menu, and select "add hard disk" [New Standard hard disk].

When you want an 800-gigabyte disk, it is obvious that the 600g high-speed disk is not enough, so we choose Browse in the location.

Datastore1 and datastore2 are available in the pop-up window. At this point we select datastore2 and create a folder where 2003 virtual disk files are stored.

At this point, you can see that the available capacity is 7.25TB, which is enough to store general data files.

After saving, enter the virtual server system, first online and then initialize the disk.

At this point, your virtual server is ready to provide services!
