Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

Google's next Pixel flagship product-- possibly named "Pixel 6"-- will use Google's GS101 "white chapel" SoC, the company's first flagship product, according to 9to5Google and XDA-Developers.

According to 9to5Google, Google is developing two phones that will feature an Arm-based GS101. The phone is considered to be the flagship device after the follow-up to last year's Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G.

At the same time, the XDA report further details the new SoC, claiming that the GS101 chip will have "three cluster settings and TPU (Tensor processing Unit)" for machine learning applications. (for reference, Qualcomm's flagship product Snapdragon 888 uses Arm's Cortex-X1/Cortex-A78/Cortex-A55 as a three-cluster CPU setting. In addition, the new SoC may have integrated security chips, similar to TitanM.

Google's idea of making custom TPU or security chips is not new: Google has already made TPU for servers and pixel-4 NeuroCore, as well as discrete Titan M chips in current phones. However, custom-designed GS101 may enable companies to integrate these functions more deeply.

Rumors about Whitechapel chips also spread last year, when Ai Credible reported that Google was looking to develop its own internal chips for pixels and Chromebook devices. The report claims that the company will optimize its chips for Google's machine learning technology, as confirmed by the XDA report. The GS101 chips used in the 2021 Pixel series will be the first fruits of the Whitechapel project, although Axios's original report indicates that Chromebook chips will not be available until the future.

9to5Google's report also mentions the "Slider" code tied to the new device, indicating that it is also connected to Samsung's Exynos SoC, which is used on Galaxy smartphone devices outside the United States. As one of the largest manufacturers of smartphone semiconductors, Samsung's intervention in manufacturing (reported by Axios last year) is justified.
