Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
Google's Stadia cloud gaming service was launched on November 19th (you probably shouldn't have bought it yet), but we've heard more about Amazon rumors of entering the field. Amazon plans to announce its cloud gaming service next year, CNET reported. CNET's story confirms a report by the Information News in January, revealing the existence of the service for the first time and saying it may not be launched until 2020 at the earliest.
This to-do list also provides us with some evidence that Amazon provides cloud gaming services. According to CNET, the company has been looking for a "new plan" among the Amazon Web Services team (AWS supports many of the cloud-based services you use every day), which is related to the new gaming service. A job announcement found by CNET makes it clear that Amazon plans to integrate the service with Twitch, which sounds similar to Google's plan to eventually integrate Stadia and YouTube.
The Verge found a to-do list and is now the "key product leader" list for the new AWS game program. The list doesn't reveal any details about the appearance of the service, but it does contain a bold statement about Amazon's gaming ambitions:
We believe that every quarter of the arcade community has developed into today's live streaming and e-sports, and will continue into the future. Everyone is a player, and each player can create, compete, cooperate and contact with others on a large scale.
On the verge of discovering this information when it was first reported in January, there are two to-do lists of engineers working on "cloud games", one of which explicitly mentions some new gaming businesses.
It makes sense for Amazon to offer cloud gaming services.
Although you may not think of Amazon as a game company, in a sense, it wants to provide cloud gaming services, and it understands the huge potential of this service. AWS provides strong support for the Internet, including large games such as Fortnite, which means Amazon already has a lot of infrastructure and streaming know-how that can be used to build reliable cloud gaming services. Amazon also has a very popular real-time streaming service Twitch. The service is likely to provide Amazon with a lot of information about the types of games that people may spend hours playing every day.
Amazon has tried cloud games before. Watch this video of a hybrid Amazon cloud game in which you wave a giant cross running on an Amazon Fire tablet to fight swarms of enemies created by remote servers. These graphics may seem a little out of date, but keep in mind that games made by Amazon's own Amazon Game Studio were released in 2014:
Five years later, maybe Amazon thinks the technology that supports cloud games is good enough to try to provide more comprehensive services.
Of course, Amazon and Google are not the only ones doing well in cloud games. Even if this is not a new idea, it is rapidly becoming a new battleground for technology companies. Sony acquired early players Gaikai and OnLive to help them make better use of PlayStation Now services, while NVIDIA has been testing GeForce Now for years.
More companies join the cloud game war.
But now, as more and more companies join the competition, there will soon be dazzling cloud games to choose from. Microsoft's Project xCloud service is currently in the preview stage, with more than 50 games. EA tested its Project Atlas cloud gaming service for two weeks in September. A game called "Steam Cloud Game" is mentioned in the code of the Valve website. Nintendo is testing Switch's streaming games. In January, The Verge reported that Verizon was testing the Verizon game on the NVIDIA shield. Even Wal-Mart is clearly exploring its own cloud gaming service.
2020 will be an important year for cloud games, of which Amazon may be the best.
