Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
The undisputed highlight of Acer's new Predator Triton 900 gaming laptop is its gorgeous 17.3inch 4K IPS LCD screen floating above the chassis. Well, it's not completely floating. The sturdy arms connected to both sides of the screen play a central role in the effect, giving it a wide range of movement, more than almost any other laptop used for games. Just as the clear screen of Microsoft's Surface Studio integrated desktop comes to laptops, the price is high.
The entry-level configuration I'm looking at is priced at $3799. Although it is similar to Microsoft's artist-friendly desktop, Acer's screen does not support active stylus, such as Surface products or many other laptops. I don't think most gamers will care about this omission, but the design of this expensive laptop can reflect the drawing surface but doesn't really work.
As for what the screen can do, you can move back and forth without changing the perspective. If you need to rotate it, the hinge allows 180 degrees to flip. Are most of these gimmicks? Right. How important is the removable screen in the game? No, at least for me, if you deal with the wrong glare, it will come in handy. It will be a shining display. The main reason why I didn't find myself adjusting the screen during the game was that it was so clear that even the smallest details, no matter how far away I was, would appear.
When not playing games, I like mobile phone monitors very much. Its 17.3-inch screen is a huge canvas, and the multi-window arrangement is very comfortable to run day and night. I find that a clear picture parallel to my eyes helps me concentrate better. Whether I work sitting or standing up, the Triton 900s always hold me. This is not what a standard flip laptop can provide, at least if I don't adjust my chair, table or body exercise regularly.

Surprisingly, the premium on its removable screen is not shocking. Compared with any other game laptop with a six-core ninth-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia RTX 2080 graphics and 32GB DDR4 memory, it costs roughly the same (plus or minus a few hundred dollars, depending on the brand) and comes with a 4K IPS LCD display. If you are already planning to spend a lot of money on clunky gaming laptops instead of being very portable (rather than saving thousands of pounds on a similar desktop version of DIY), this seems to be a more interesting option.
Triton 900 dominates our shared desktops. It is almost 17 inches wide and has half an inch of hinges on each side of the screen. It weighs 9 pounds, which makes it suffer. It's hard to find a bag that can hold a 17-inch laptop these days. Even if you find it, it won't change the laptop. It's just not fun, especially because it won't last long. If you don't have a 330-watt power adapter, pile two pounds.
The bottom chassis connected to the screen is very similar to the bottom chassis you find on other game laptops. Its treatment of aluminum is almost everywhere, which is sure to cause some type of reaction to bystanders from a stylistic point of view. It is wide enough to accommodate two top launch speakers, an 82-key (80%) backlit low-key mechanical keyboard and a side-by-side touchpad, but not without any compromise.
Its loudspeaker is strong enough to make my glass table vibrate, but it doesn't sound good. They are suitable for video conference calls, but they lack the influence that makes me want to use them instead of a set of headphones. The mechanical buttons have satisfactory clicks on them and are more enjoyable to use than those on the MacBook, although the distance of the buttons is still very shallow. The touchpad is located on the right side of the keyboard (for right-handed people only) and is actually a good experience because of its Windows Precision touchpad driver.
But I have some sophistry. The keyboard is located near the front of the chassis, and the palms and wrists cannot be placed when typing. This is a restrictive rather than misleading design decision because Acer must make room for powerful hardware and enough fans to stay calm. If you don't use a wrist bracket, you may need to buy one. But if you plan to play games on your knees, using the keyboard will be even more uncomfortable.
The question mark key on the right and the shift key on the right are squeezed together to almost guarantee that there will be no mistakes when typing quickly. The touchpad reacts to touch and multi-fingered gestures, although it feels a little cramped in its high direction. Definitely not suitable for fast-paced games. If you decide not to use the touchpad, you can turn it into a numeric keypad by clicking on the corner twice. These virtual numeric keys have no sense of touch and sometimes do not respond to fast clicks, so they cannot replace the external numeric keypad, although they can work in emergency situations.
The height of the trackpad is a bit clumsy, so you need to use a separate mouse.
The keyboard also includes macro keys and user programmable shortcuts above the function keys. Buttons marked with "p" (possible for predators) can switch between up to three macro groups, providing you with nine configurable buttons to which you can assign functions. You can specify a button to perform actions such as starting installed applications, increasing fan speed, and disabling window keys.
Do. All of this is useful if you find yourself wanting to adjust a large number of settings dynamically, which is what gamers usually do.
All of this can be configured in Acer's PredatorSense suite, a utility that you can do, such as adjusting the backlight mode of the keyboard and the light shining on the glass-covered fan near it, overclocking the machine's graphics card, and monitoring its operating temperature.
There are vents around the Triton 900. some are used for inhaling air and some for blowing. This powerful system heats up to 70 degrees Celsius (158 degrees Fahrenheit) when running Battlefield V and turns on ray tracing and Nvidia's DLSS (depth Learning Supersampling) function at 4K resolution. As the fans roared, I was a little afraid to put it on my knee, but it was surprisingly tolerant (though the summer was too warm). The laptop blows most of the hot air out of my back, which is where my fingers and legs can't really touch. There is an air intake at the top of the chassis, near the Gorilla Glass-covered radiator and fan, which occupies the back half of the computer. Acer's decision to push the keyboard to the front ensures that the CPU and GPU stay cool, and it works at the expense of ergonomic keyboard and mouse settings.
Unique keyboard location can fully cool processors and graphics cards
You can usually rely on the healthy number of ports on your gaming laptop, while the Triton 900s are not disappointing. There are two USB 3.1 (Type A) ports, a headset and microphone Jack, a Thunderbolt 3 port and, somewhat puzzling, the foldable USB 2.0 port on the left side of the keyboard. Acer calls it the "Xbox controller port", so the idea is that you will insert a Xbox wireless adapter, collapse it, and then forget it. Although, I found that the port has enough gaps once folded to fit my Logitech mouse's small flash drive or USB receiver. The last few remaining ports include Ethernet, HDMI and DisplayPort.
This laptop is not inferior in performance. Outside the game, there is no sign of slowing down under what I think is a moderate load: opening 20 Google Chrome tabs, Affinity Photo for editing photos, and other apps. You want more from a $3799 laptop, don't you?
But battery life is another matter. This is a big weakness for game laptops, but under the same load, the user's life cycle takes about an hour, which is uncomfortably short. It has a built-in 72Wh battery for a smaller, thinner device than a 15-inch MacBook Pro. Enabling Apex Legends reduces the run time to approximately 45 minutes. This computer burns out the battery quickly.
Another common problem with high-end gaming laptops built with 1440p or 4K monitors is that they often fail to run each game smoothly at its original resolution. For example, when set to 4K resolution, Triton 900runs Battlefield V and Apex Legends at 30 frames per second, with all graphics settings switched to the maximum. Overclocking (which is easily opened through Acer's pre-installed software suite) can improve a lot of things, although I still haven't got a super smooth 60 frames per second in any game.
I have tested a lot of games, such as Astroneer and Forza Horizo n 4, which run beautifully at the native 4K resolution. However, as we approach the edge of a new generation of consoles, Cyber punk 2077 and other graphics-intensive games are coming. This machine will be ready for them, but you can expect some of the latest games to be popular because of their overclocking capabilities.
The fact that the 4K screen supports G-Sync may be a selling point for some people. For the background, G-Sync is the technology of Nvidia, which can accurately synchronize the variable refresh rate of the screen with the output of the graphics card. Compared with the V-Sync used in traditional displays, G-Sync minimizes screen tearing and other graphics failures without increasing input latency. Therefore, ideally, you can get better performance from the hardware without spending your precious milliseconds, which is the accuracy that competitive gamers want. Unfortunately, this screen is limited to the refresh rate of 60Hz, so you limit the fastest frame rate you see to 60 frames per second. It looks great, but you can better see the technology on the high refresh rate monitor, which allows the display of 144 frames per second (or more).
It's important to talk about the limitations of the device, especially when it costs nearly $4000. Game laptops strive to package the highest-performance hardware, so you have to give it to the manufacturer when you make it, especially if they also implement interesting removable screens. But the compromise here, mainly inherent in all game laptops, is heavy.
Acer's Predator Triton 900 is powerful enough for gamers to enjoy, but its 60Hz refresh rate is disappointing. This money will give you a faster refresh screen, and as a gamer, I will look elsewhere, which is very important to you. If you are an artist interested in Surface Studio-inspired displays, its lack of effective stylus support is a huge oversight of Acer.
TRITON 900is a strange compromise between killer game settings and designer dream machines.
What's the use of a laptop? you can't wrap it up reasonably without some serious effort? What is the use of a 4K monitor if the machine cannot run many popular games at this resolution? This is not very good.
I appreciate Acer's attempt to expand the attractiveness of its game laptop by attracting artists or people who really have a lot of cash and want to have notebooks with interesting designs. But in doing so, the Predator Triton 900s are still somewhere between the machines that stubborn gamers and artists want. It's powerful, but the seemingly small warning is destructive.
