For example, he wrote in the article "Persuasion for Learning":

"Middle school is internal learning, western learning is external learning; middle school governs body and mind, and western learning deals with the world. He is divided into immutable ways and methods that change with time; middle schools tend to be immutable, while Western learning tends to be changeable.

-only through simplicity (because it is constant and simple) can we master complexity and variability. Therefore, it can also be seen as the relationship.

-actually, I like the structure of Zhang Zhidong very much. This reminds me of the idea of "self-trapping of conscience" put forward by Mou Zongsan, a master of Confucian philosophy. In his 1961 classic "rational performance and structural expression", Mou Zongsan mentioned that: in the life of Chinese culture

There is only "comprehensive and reasonable spirit", but lack of "decomposed rational spirit".

There is only "rational application performance", but there is no "rational structural expression".

There is only "rational content expression", but there is no "rational extension expression".

-this reminds me, who grew up in Confucian culture, to reflect carefully on whether the Decomposition thinking of software architecture has reached the Atom level, which may be the spirit of rational decomposition. Then, in the Architecture thinking, whether to design a simple combinatorial rhythm, based on simple shaping and clear combination rules, combine a variety of architectures from simplicity. This may be a rational architectural expression. Finally, in the Abstraction thinking, whether to separate the connotation (content) from the shaping (extension), that is, the container is the abstract perspective. This may be the extension of rationality.

-so, I use the container abstract perspective to separate the connotation of middle school and western learning (Content), leave the container, and come to an immutable form (Form). I call it: Zhang Zhidong; as shown below:

-this becomes an atomic (Atom) level container, an extremely lovely simple shape. I think Zhang Zhidong made a very superior structure (subtraction) design for the extremely complex situation in which Western learning spread eastward at that time, helping Chinese people to design simplicity from complexity. Just like Newton discovered the shaping of F=ma mechanics formula, or Einstein's mass-energy exchange formula of E = MC ^ 2.

As a result, everyone can master complexity through simple shaping. That is, the connotation of the shape can be loaded into simple (unchanged) and boxed (shaping).

-this is like Tang poetry, everyone, such as Li Bai, du Fu or Bai Juyi, can fill their infinite innovation, emotion and dream into the shaping (container) of Tang poetry. This is what is called: poetry isomorphism.

-based on Zhang Zhidong, people (such as architects) can continue to shape their clear and simple combination rules, so that everyone can combine the initial complexity (systems or products) from simplicity. It's like combining hydrogen and oxygen atoms into water molecules.

-this is the invariance of shaping and combinatorial rhythm, rather than that of middle school or western learning. A tree is also unchanged in shape and rhythm, not in trunks, leaves or roots. In fact, so far I do not have the ability to create the combinatorial rhythm. The above is just one of the interesting examples that I often use to train architects in container abstraction skills when I work in Japan (or Spain).
