What is DNS domain name resolution

DNS (Domain Name System, Domain name system), a distributed database on the Internet as a mapping between domain names and IP addresses, can make it more convenient for users to access the Internet without having to remember the IP strings that can be read directly by the machine. The process of getting the IP address corresponding to the host name through the host name is called domain name resolution (or host name resolution). DNS protocol runs on top of UDP protocol, using port number 53. In RFC documents, RFC 2181 has specification for DNS, RFC 2136 for dynamic updates of DNS, and RFC 2308 for reverse caching of DNS queries.

The DNS zone is divided into two categories: forward lookup zone and reverse lookup zone, in which the forward lookup zone is used for FQDN-to-IP address mapping. when a DNS client requests to resolve a FQDN, the DNS server looks in the forward lookup zone and returns it to the corresponding IP address of the DNS client. The reverse lookup zone is used for IP address to FQDN mapping. When a DNS client requests to resolve an IP address, the DNS server looks in the reverse lookup zone and returns it to the corresponding FQDN of the DNS client. Depending on the zone category and zone type, the operation when creating a zone on the DNS server is also different.

Forward resolution: querying IP addresses according to domain names is the most basic and most commonly used function of DNS reverse parsing: querying domain names according to IP addresses is not commonly used.

II. Environment

The forward parsing experiment of DNS is completed in a Centos 7 virtual machine.

III. Experiment

1. Install bind package

Copy zone data files to kgc.com.zone

5. Turn off the firewall, turn off enhanced security, and turn on the domain name resolution service.

Once all the configurations are complete, we can begin to test whether domain name resolution can be performed.
