Exchange 2010 SP1 upgrade to SP3 error "previous program failed to execute install, unable to continue installation through BuildToBuildUpgrade", solution:

Find the following registry key value on the server:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ ExchangeServer\ v14

Then go to the appropriate mailbox role (Mailbox or Client Access or Transfer) to see if there are watermark and action values, and if so, delete them after backup

Also make sure that the ConfiguredVersion key value exists and that the value should be the same as the current version of exchange

You can continue with the installation.
