Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--
Editor to share with you how to replace the system disk by changing the system disk, I believe that most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference. I hope you will learn a lot after reading this article. Let's learn about it!
Replace the system disk (non-public image)
Replacing the system disk means reassigning a system disk for you (the system disk ID will be updated), and the original system disk will be released. If you choose the wrong operating system when creating an ECS instance, or if you need to expand the capacity of the system disk or use other operating systems as the business develops, you can do so by replacing the system disk. You can replace the image of the system disk with a public image, a shared image, a custom image, or any image in the image market.
Description
Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows Server 2003. In order to ensure the security of your data, Aliyun does not recommend that ECS instances continue to use Windows Server 2003 system, nor does it provide this image. For more information, please see about Aliyun no longer supports Windows Server 2003 system mirrors.
After replacing the system disk
Your instance will be assigned a new system disk, the system disk ID will be updated, and the original system disk will be released.
The cloud disk type of the system disk cannot be replaced.
The IP address and MAC address of the instance remain unchanged.
To ensure that there is enough snapshot quota to complete the automatic snapshot policy for the new system disk, you can delete the old system disk snapshot that you do not need.
This article describes how to replace the image of a system disk with a non-public image. If you need to use a public image, please refer to the documentation to replace the system disk (public image).
Matters needing attention
Replacing the system disk is a high-risk operation, so be sure to read the following notes carefully before replacing the system disk.
Risk
There are the following risks in replacing the system disk:
Replacing the system disk requires stopping the instance, so it will disrupt your business.
After the replacement is completed, you need to redeploy the business operating environment in the new system disk, which may cause a long interruption to your business.
Replacing a system disk reassigns a system disk to your instance, and the disk ID will change, so snapshots created based on the old system disk will not be used to roll back the new system disk.
Description
After you replace the system disk, the snapshots you create manually are not affected, and you can still create custom mirrors with these snapshots. If you set the automatic snapshot policy for the old system disk and set the automatic snapshot to be released with the disk, the automatic snapshot policy no longer applies to the new system disk, and the automatic snapshot of the old system disk is automatically deleted.
Considerations for cross-operating system replacement
Cross-operating system replacement refers to the mutual replacement of Windows and Linux systems.
Description
The interchange between Linux and Windows systems is not supported in non-Chinese mainland regions, but only between different release versions of Linux or different versions of Windows.
When changing across operating systems, the file system format of the data disk may not be recognized.
If your data disk does not have important data, it is recommended that you reinitialize the data disk and format it as the default file system of the corresponding system.
If you have important data on your data disk, you need to do the following:
Replace a Windows system with a Linux system: you need to install software identification, such as NTFS-3G, etc., because Linux does not recognize the NTFS format by default.
Replace Linux system with Windows system: you need to install software identification separately, such as Ext2Read, Ext2Fsd, etc., because Windows does not recognize ext3, ext4, XFS and other file system formats by default.
If you change the operating system from a Windows system to a Linux system, you can choose to use password authentication or SSH key pair authentication.
prerequisite
Before changing the image of the system disk to a non-public image, you must first complete the following tasks:
If you replace it with a custom mirror:
If you want to use a mirror on an ECS instance, you must create a snapshot of the system disk of the specified instance and use the snapshot to create a custom mirror. If this instance is not in the same region as the instance in which you want to replace the system disk, you need to copy the image.
If you want to use a local physical image file, you need to import the image on the console or use Packer to create and import the local image. The region where the image resides must be the same as your instance.
If you want to use an image from another region, you need to copy the image first.
Description
The images obtained in the above way appear in the drop-down list of custom images when changing the system disk.
If you want to use an image from another Aliyun account, you must first share the image.
If you change to a Linux system and choose SSH key pair authentication, you must first create an SSH key pair.
Because replacing the system disk is a high-risk operation, which may result in data loss or business suspension, in order to minimize the impact of replacing the system disk on your business, it is recommended to create a snapshot of the current system disk before replacing the system disk.
Description
Avoid creating snapshots during peak hours of your business, so as not to affect your business. A 40-GiB snapshot takes about 40 minutes to create for the first time. So please set aside enough time. "also, creating a snapshot may degrade the block storage Iripple O performance (typically less than 10%), slowing down briefly."
When creating a snapshot, make sure that there is enough space on the system disk, and it is recommended to reserve 1 GiB of space. Otherwise, after the system disk is expanded and replaced, the system may not start normally.
Operation steps
Log in to the ECS Management console.
In the left navigation bar, click the instance.
Select the region.
Find the instance that needs to replace the system disk, and in the actions column, select more > stop.
When the instance status becomes stopped, it indicates that the instance has been stopped successfully.
In the actions column, select more > replace the system disk.
In the pop-up dialog box, after carefully reading the notes for replacing the system disk, click OK to replace the system disk.
On the replace system disk page
Image type: select a custom image, a shared image or a mirror market, and select the desired image.
System disk: the cloud disk type of the system disk cannot be changed, but you can expand the capacity of the system disk to a maximum capacity of 500 GiB according to business requirements and the needs of the new image. The minimum capacity that can be set during capacity expansion is related to the current capacity and image of the system disk, as shown in the following table.
Description
If you have done renewal and downconfiguration, you cannot modify the system disk capacity before entering the next billing cycle.
Security Settings:
If the new operating system is a Windows system, you can only use password authentication.
If your instance is an Imax O optimized instance and the new operating system is a Linux system, you can choose to use password authentication or SSH key pair authentication. You must set the login password or bind the SSH key pair.
Confirm configuration fee: generally refers to the cost of the system disk. For the price of the system disk, please refer to the price page of cloud products for details. If the custom image you select comes from the image market, there may be a fee, which is also included in the configuration fee. For the billing information of images, please refer to the billing overview.
Description
System disk price description: the system disk is sold according to the starting capacity and charged according to the starting price. after exceeding the starting capacity, each additional 1 GiB is charged according to the linear billing price. For the system disk with initial capacity, the prepaid price is CNY / month, and the pay-by-quantity price is CNY / hour.
Once confirmed, click OK to replace.
Log in to the ECS console to monitor the system status, and it will take about 10 minutes to complete the operating system replacement. After completion, the instance will start automatically.
Subsequent operation
After replacing the system disk, you may need to do the following:
(optional) set the automatic snapshot policy for the new system disk. The automatic snapshot policy is bound to the disk ID. After the new system disk is replaced, the automatic snapshot policy applied on the old disk automatically expires. You need to set the automatic snapshot policy for the new system disk.
If it is the Linux system before and after the replacement, and the original data disk is mounted on the instance and the boot automatic mount partition is set: after the system disk is replaced, the data disk partition mount information in the original system disk is lost. You must write the new partition information in the / etc/fstab file of the new system disk and mount the partition. There is no need to format and partition the data disk. The operation steps are as follows. For specific operation commands, please refer to Linux to format and mount the data disk:
(recommended) back up the etc/fstab.
Write new partition information to / etc/fstab.
View the new partition information in / etc/fstab.
Run the mount command to mount the partition.
View file system space and usage: run the command df-h.
After the mount operation is completed, you do not need to restart the instance to start using the new data disk.
