Programmers who write the major terminals often have the illusion that "SQL language is very simple, DBA work is very easy", especially when an Android programmer sees himself failing and failing in college when his bad friend is engaged in DBA work: "if you don't study hard, you can only use the additions, deletions, changes and searches of SQL".

However, unlike the major terminals that write SQL code only to cache the interface, in the daily management of the server-side SQL Server, DBA needs to consider how to make SQL Server run efficiently and has good performance; DBA not only needs to understand the daily operation of the database, analyze and tune the performance, but also need to deploy and monitor the online environment. The book "SQL Server Monitoring and diagnosis" is written by DBA which hopes to understand how to carry out automatic monitoring and diagnosis of SQL Server, which can make the technical level of DBA with a certain foundation grow like bamboo shoots after a spring rain. The first chapter, "introduction to SQL Server Monitoring", introduces the concept of SQL Server monitoring, and emphasizes the importance of SQL Server monitoring and diagnosis.

The second chapter of this book, "SQL Server Monitoring event Series", first introduces the concept of SQL tracking, then introduces and analyzes in detail the default tracking and black box tracking, and gives examples to illustrate the application of the two methods in practice. The third chapter, "SQL Server Advanced Diagnostic Series", first introduces the extended events of SQL Server and how to use extended events to prevent deadlock, then introduces two implementation methods of SQL Server ring buffer: array and list, and then illustrates several common uses of Ring Buffer: diagnosing SQL Server memory pressure, obtaining CPU utilization of SQL processes and tracking exceptions.

"SQL Server Monitoring and Diagnostics" not only taught me the method of automatically managing the increasing number of SQL Server servers, but also changed my idea that SQL Server is just a slightly complex SQLite, and completely cured my prejudice against the work of DBA. It made me understand that the ability of a person who is competent for DBA is not limited to using SQL to add, delete, change and search, but also how to make SQL Server run better.
