Shulou(Shulou.com)06/02 Report--

Introduction GIMP (GNU image processing program GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a first-class open source free image processing program. Peter Mattis and Spencer Kimball of the University of California, Berkeley started developing the program as early as 1995. In 1997, the program became an official part of the GNU project and was officially renamed GIMP. Today, GIMP has become one of the best image editors, and there is often a "GIMP vs Photoshop" dispute.

GIMP is not only available in Linux, but also has a large number of professional users on Windows and macOS platforms. It is considered by many people to be one of the best alternatives to Photoshop. However, because GIMP uses a different user interface and interaction logic than PhotoShop, it will take some time for users who migrate from Photoshop to adapt.

Photo GIMP patch

Now, someone has developed a new patch that can "dress up" your GIMP like Photoshop. This patch is PhotoGIMP, and all it does is adjust GIMP to mimic Photoshop's interface, while adding a bunch of extra features.

This patch is for GIMP 2.10 and provides the following features:

Organize the toolkit to mimic the hundreds of new fonts installed by Adobe Photoshop by default install new Python filters by default, such as heal selection's new startup splash screen, new default settings to maximize canvas space customized according to the Adobe document setting shortcuts for similar functions on Photoshop. Preferences file adds new icons and names the new default language is English (you can still change in the settings if you want)

After installing the patch, GIMP looks like this:

How to install

Here is an example of flatpak, but this patch is really just a file, so you can use it on GIMP installed in any package (.deb, .rpm, snap, AppImage, Windows, macOS), just check the localization of the GIMP file in each system / package.

Prepare the Flatpak environment

First, you need to use Flatpak to install the latest GIMP on your system.

Install GIMP Flatpak from AppCenter/Package Manager or terminal:

Flatpak install flathub org.gimp.GIMP installs this patch

In the .zip file of the release page, you will find three hidden folders (on Linux, use the one before the name. To hide the file. All of these folders must be unzipped into your / home/$USER folder, and if you already have the same files in your previous installation, everything will be overwritten.

The file has the following directory.

.icons (there is a new PhotoGIMP icon here) .local (which contains personalized .custom files) .var (which contains flatpak patch customization for GIMP 2.10 +)

If you just want to customize PhotoGIMP without changing the original GIMP icon and name, just unzip the .var folder to your home directory.

Want to use it on Windows, macOS or Ubuntu (snap)?

Since this patch is just a file, the only thing you need to do is copy all the files in the /. Var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/config/GIMP/2.10 in the software repository to the GIMP folder on each specific system, overwriting the existing files.

Windows:C:/Users/YOUR_USER/AppData/Roaming/GIMP/2.10macOS:/Users/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.10/Ubuntu (snap): / home/$USER/snap/gimp/47/.config/GIMP/2.10/ regular Linux installation (.deb, .rpm): / home/$USER/.config/GIMP/2.10/

The release of GIMP on macOS is a bit late, so the patch will still work, especially in terms of keyboard shortcuts, but some things, such as the organization of the toolkit, will have to wait until the macOS version reaches version 2.10.20.

The new icon can only be used through patch extraction in the Linux environment, but you can set it manually on your system.
