The topic of this document: start and stop the SAP system, which are two basic topics for SAP administrators. As administrators, they must also learn effective log viewing and tracking options to deal with startup failures.

1.1 SAP startup process

The basic condition of starting a SAP system is to be able to use the system. After hardware modification and parameter change, the sap system needs to be restarted. Every administrator needs to be familiar with the startup of the sap system.

Boot sequence:

Prerequisite: log in to the system using the adm user

A) start database

B) start the central instance (MS): in this step, the operating system collector SAPOSCOL will be started. If the SAPOSCOL program is not started, it can be started in ST06 after the operating system is up, and then the central instance and dispatcher,dispatcher that start message server and their working processes will be started (after sap starts, the process will be started at the operating system level: saposcol.exe,msg_server.exe,gwrd.exe,icman.exe and multiple disp+work processes)

C) start sap:Startsap with the command

Startsap will start central instance and diaglog instance

1.2 start the log file

Log of the Sap system (/ usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS00/work)

Trace file of a single sap process

A) tracking files for dev_ms:message server

B) tracking files for dev_rd:gateway

C) tracking file for dev_disp:dispatcher

D) dev_w: tracking file for the nth work process

In the sap system, you can use sm21 to view logs

1.3 Startup parameter file

Description: you can change the default parameter values in profile. This profile file is created when the system is installed and can be edited later. Because the profile file can only be read when the system boots, sap instance must be restarted after changing the parameter value of profile.

A) Start Profile: / usr/sap/ECD/SYS/profile/start__ example ECD: START_DVEBMGS00_joeoneecd)

B) Default and Instance Profile: / usr/sap/ECD/SYS/profile/__ (example: ECD_DVEBMGS00_joeoneecd)

2 shutdown of SAP

For a regular planned outage, you should follow these steps to stop the SAP system:

A) run the transaction code sm02, select create, and send messages on the system

B) before downtime, run the transaction code al08 to see which other users are active in the current system. If necessary, the phone informs the user to stop the system immediately and requires the user to launch.

C) run the transaction code sm35, select the In Processing tag to see if the system is running bulk import jobs, and if there are running jobs, you need to find the relevant users to confirm whether these jobs can be stopped.

D) after the above work is confirmed, run on the operating system
