Linux askmethod: type Linux askmethod to let the installation process choose where to install. It can be installed from a local DVD/CD, NFS image, FTP, HTTP, or hard drive.

Linux nocddma: type Linux nocddma to turn off DMA. Some CD driver errors can be overcome by turning off DMA, which is worth trying if it is confirmed that a good CD or DVD fails in the media check.

Linux updates: enter Linux updates to install from the upgrade disk.

You can add other options to the Linux boot command to identify hardware that has not been detected correctly. For example, to specify the number of cylinders, heads, and sectors of your hard disk (if you think the boot process did not detect these values correctly), you can pass the message to the kernel as follows: Linux hd=720,32,64. In this example, the kernel is told that the hard disk has 720 cylinders, 32 heads, and 64 sectors. You can find this information in the documentation that came with the hard drive (or where the hard drive label is close to the serial number).
