In the afternoon, my colleague sent me a WeChat message saying that GI had been installed normally when installing RAC of Oracle 11.2.0.4. However, when installing the database software, the graphical interface does not display the host names of the two hosts, and there is no way to continue the installation. Because not together, so Baidu corresponding article to see, but related articles are not many. Found an article https://blog.csdn.net/MFW333/article/details/71122990 saying CRS = TRUE is missing from inventory.xml file.

So it was transferred to colleagues to check, and the feedback result was that there was this configuration in the configuration file:

Where did the problem go? It seems that Baidu can not solve it. To get server information, log in and see for yourself. In fact, at first I thought it was caused by an error in the/etc/hosts or hostname configuration, but after logging in, I found that there was no problem with the configuration. So he executed himself./ runInstaller actually looks at it, and when it comes to Grid Installation Options, it really doesn't see the node name information of the host. Because there is no screenshot in a hurry, students can make up for it by themselves.

There is no node name information, see if there is any error in the log. Unfortunately, there is no journal. Without log information, you can't see errors; without errors, it's hard to troubleshoot problems. Then I thought, I'll just click Next to see what happens, and the result is the error message I want: [INS-08109] Unexpected error occurred while validating inputs at state 'nodeSelectionPage'.

There is no extra information written in details, so contact support or inquire about the manual. Support is not available, then go to MOS to check the relevant documents, there are really the same as this error message document. INS-08109 Unexpected error occurred While Validating Inputs At State 'nodeSelectionPage' (File ID 948382.1). The document describes seven causes of this problem and gives solutions.

1. ORA_CRS_HOME environment variable is set

OUI calls $GRID_HOME/srvm/admin/getcrshome to get Grid Infrastructure home, if environment variable ORA_CRS_HOME is set to anything but GRID home, the error will be reported. In 11gR2, it's not supported to setup environment variable ORA_CRS_HOME.

The solution is to unset the environment variable and restart OUI.

unset ORA_CRS_HOME

2. Database user can not access olr.loc in /etc/oracle or /var/opt/oracle

OUI calls "crsctl query crs activersion" to get active version of clusterware. If it fails to read olr.loc (if grid and database are owned differently), the issue can happen. From strace/truss:

open("/etc/oracle/olr.loc", O_RDONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

The solution is to ensure that 'oracle' user has read permission on olr.loc in /etc/oracle or /var/opt/oracle.

3. ORACLE_HOME environment variable not set to GRID_HOME

This problem will occur while installing 11.2.0.4 RAC RDBMS software in a 12c Grid Infrastructure environment.

The solution is to set ORACLE_HOME environment variable pointing to GRID_HOME before installing RDBMS software.

4. Database user does not exist on all nodes

This problem will occur if database user does not exist on all nodes in the cluster. For example, 4-node cluster, trying to install a new RAC DB home on two nodes only so the new DB user is created on two nodes. The solution is to have the same DB user on all nodes.

5. NLS_LANG environment variable is set to Japanese_Japan.JA16SJIS etc

If NLS_LANG is set to "Japanese_Japan.JA16SJIS" etc, the issue will happen as output of "crsctl query crs activeversion" garbles.

The solution is to unset NLS_LANG.

6. ORA_NLS10 environment variable is set

environment variable is not necessary for Oracle 11g/12c

7. Hostnames in /etc/hosts are incorrect

This error is generated when trying to add new nodes into the cluster if the entries for the hostnames

in /etc/hosts is incorrect.

Looking at it, it seems that only the second one is more in line with the problem we are currently encountering, so we go to the machine to see the permissions of olr.loc

Crsctl query crs activeversion is also executed successfully. (In fact, this is a mistake in mos article, activeversion is written as activeversion.)

If you execute olsnode -n again, you can also identify two nodes.

The cluster is also normal.

It also seems to have read access. So how do we solve the problem? Also read a few MOS on the document, and Baidu a number of posts, I feel that the general problems encountered by others have been listed in the above 7. But the problems I encountered were not listed. Could it be another BUG? Thinking about it, it shouldn't be possible. If such a small matter caused a BUG, Oracle wouldn't be able to become so powerful all of a sudden. So where does the problem lie?

In fact, at this time, I fell into a fixed pattern of thinking, ignoring some places that I thought could not go wrong. It was precisely this place that went wrong this time.

In fact, it is still a question of permissions, but it is not just a question of the permissions of olr.loc, but a question of the permissions of the entire oracle user. Read a lot of articles say it is a permission problem, I think, then I look at the uid and group of oracle user configuration, when I finish executing the id oracle command to see the results, instantly understand the root cause of the problem, is the permission problem.

Students familiar with oracle should be able to see at a glance that the oracle user configuration belongs to the wrong group. This is also the key to this problem. Delete oracle users and recreate them. The problem is solved perfectly:
